I bought this radio in hopes of 1 day getting my license. I programed the radio to all my local repeaters and listened a lot to the radio. Great sounding HT really. I couldn't get over how quick the battery drains though.
That, and you have to use two hands to adjust the volume, so if it's on your belt loop, you pretty much have to remove it first.
The radio is nice, small and sound's great, but ultimately battery life was disappointing for my needs.

This is a great radio. Very easy to program with the keypad. Also easy to use and navigate through the user interface. The audio is really good for the size of the speaker. The battery life could be better. Charging will take a while. Recommend using the fast charge cradle sold separately, but the charge time is cut down significantly. Besides the battery life and charging, a great radio.

I have owned a couple of Radio Shack radios as well as some Baofeng radios and a TYT digital radio (DMR). This is my first Yaesu radio. I would have given it a five star rating if the user manual was included. I had to download the user manual. I have not communicated with anyone using the digital mode yet because there are no Fusion only repeaters. I guess that Fusion or C4FM users are not all that interested in using a new mode like this. This radio does not have the squelch problems that Baofeng radios have. This radio also does not have the problem that Baofeng radios have with the audio cutting out if someone is loud. This radio is programmable with the keypad and that makes it better than my TYT radio. The software is not useful because I do not use Windows at home. I have a Windows 6 computer that I will try to make work with the software for my TYT radio and my Yaesu radio. I will study the user manual and learn to program various frequencies that I am interested in hearing. Delivery was by Amazon so there was no trouble like there is with UPS. UPS needs to learn a lesson from Amazon... UPS lockers should exist.
