I'd recommend getting a Ryoba or a crosscut Dozuki

I'm not recommending this one if you are planning to have a very basic set of Japanese saws.
For Japanese saws, I'd recommend getting one Ryoba(e.g. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00BSQU9UQ), one crosscut Dozuki(e.g. https://www.amazon.com/Z-saw-Dozuki-Z-Saw/dp/B001DSY7G6), and one Dozuki rip saw(e.g. https://www.amazon.com/Gyokucho-372-Razor-Dotsuki-Takebiki/dp/B006JW19U8).
For this Kataba, it is like a half Ryoba - you get the crosscut side, and you can cut unlimited thickness. However, most people don't hand cut a lot of 4inx4in or 2inx6in, so it is not necessary to get a saw like this; even if you do, why not just get a Ryoba to have both crosscut and rip cut in one saw. On the other hand, for small size crosscut, e.g. anything smaller than a 2x2, a crosscut Dozuki gives a much better accuracy and clean cut.

Good cross cutting saw with a nice feel - if the hosel that held the blade was installed straight. The craftsmanship of the saw is not of great quality. It is advertised with a higher original price, just on sale, however the sale price reflects the saws actual quality.
