Kitties Say Tasty Food, Mom Says Terrible Packaging
Megan L.✓ Verified PurchaseDecember 6, 2023
My eldest kitty is nearing 15 and minus a few teeth, meaning that she now has a hard time eating crunchy, dry food. On a mission to find her a new, suitable wet diet, I started purchasing different brands and varieties left and right. I came across these Sheba Perfect Portions pates with fingers crossed. After a few weeks of feeds, here are the pros and cons I've found.

The pros are that my picky kitty loves the flavor and absolutely licks the bowl clean. Also, the portions really are perfect for her and there is never any worry about having to store any left over open food. The cons are that the packaging is absolutely terrible. Half the time when I'd snap the two portions in half, the foil would tear awkwardly opening both sides and leaving me scrambling to store a serving for later (something I was trying to avoid for simplicity's sake). The other half of the time, even if I snapped the portions cleanly, getting the foil off was a pain and a half. I spent more time struggling to open the foil and not get the juice everywhere or spill food on the floor than my cat spent actually eating it.

In the end, I decided to go with another brand in a can and a universal cat top to store between feeds. Not ideal, but easier than fighting the Sheba foil packaging. But if the packaging was updated a little to make opening less of a struggle, I'd switch back in a second! If you don't mind wrestling with foil and cleaning up spilled juice, the food itself is a hit with the kitties! Only recommend for now if you like your cat food experience to include a free workout.
My cat rejected another brand for this one.

My cat expects a wet food treat when I get home from work. That's our routine. I ran out of this brand and got a competitors product for my boy, but a after a few sniffs, he rejected the new brand and started following me around meowing all sad. He's basically holding me at gunpoint to continue buying this brand.

Like other users stated, sometimes the packaging will explode juices on you when opening it, but if you're careful about it, and are OK with the occasional little stinky juice, then it's nothing to worry about. I only got another brand because I was out and on the way home that day. Sticking with this brand. My guy obviously prefers it.
Caterrific!

We recently purchased the SHEBA premium cat food as it was on sale (during Prime Day) and we were running low on our Fancy Feast supply of wet cat food. So what's the verdict so far after a couple of weeks of feeding our two cats? They seem to happily enjoy it. Generally out cats enjoy fish flavored meals, but we decided to mix-up the portions a bit and grab some chicken and turkey into the mix. The portion is a bit small, but it's honestly the perfect portion for a balanced diet for any cat. As always, we recommend consulting with a Veterinarian if you have any questions on allergies or food recommendations on what your cat needs. Our cats have not exhibited any abnormal health signs after eating the food (no vomiting, fatigue, or changes in behavior) which is a good sign.

Pros
- A variety of different flavors to choose from.
- Individual serving sizes and great for multiple pets (without the need to measure serving sizes yourself).
- Zero artificial flavoring or preservatives used (grain-free without soy or wheat).

Cons
- Portions are a bit smaller than regular can cat food. They're about 24 individual servings.
- They can be expensive to purchase compared to other wet can cat food.

Is it worth it?: Depending if your cats enjoy this type of cat food. Again, we recommend consulting with a vet or trying a single can out first. If your cats enjoy them then it's definitely worth it. We just suggest buying them on sale.

Vet asked if i used plastic bowls. Friend said plastic bowls bad for cats. My husband asked is the Sheba stored in plastic bad?

Storage in plastic is relatively safe, unless you expose the plastic to extreme heat. If the plastic safety issue is a concern, then we suggest removing the food contents in the cups and putting them on a regular stainless steel bowl.

Is this 12 (2 pack portions) for an actual total of 24 individual packs or 6 (2 pack portions) for a total of 12 individual portions? Thank- you.

This was a bit confusing for us as well! It is 24 individual servings.

Overall, we recommend trying the SHEBA brand of cat food out and seeing if your cat enjoys this type of cat food. Remember, all cats are different and not every food type will fit their individual needs.

Cats Love the Food - Hate the Packaging
zCatLady✓ Verified PurchaseOctober 24, 2023
My cats really like this Sheba tuna & mackerel food. Couple of things I don't like...

First, the plastic & foil packages are IMPOSSIBLE to open without a sharp knife! I've never once been able to open even a single container by pulling on the very small tab. I have to take a sharp knife and poke through the foil, run it around the edge to get it open. I've gone through the plastic container besides the foil top, and this can be dangerous if you're not careful.

Next, each container is less than 3 oz in size. That's not much. Most "single serving" containers are at least 3-3 1/2 oz. Looking, they are 1.32 oz. Less than double a 3 oz can! It goes fast!

The fish is chunks, hard to find. Of course, being hard to find fish chunks is why my cats love it so much! But it gives them variety, as they won't eat beef or anything pate. So I'll keep paying for tiny servings.

My cat like any other cat is very finiky, Kobé is my cat name, who thinks he's my biological son but in all actuality he's my grandson, blessed from my child lol) However, we tried every food on the market. Some lasted 2 weeks topped then that was that, but SHEBA... is the only food he eats continuously. It has to be the cuts too, any pate help eat but with delay. I also like the fact you can break the serving into half. Saves me $$$ being Kobe only eats half a day, and dry food the tree remainder of the day. Price a little $$$ but great over all.
