Portable Solar Power That Works!
Scouter III✓ Verified PurchaseAugust 14, 2017
This 60W Solar Panel works as designed. Most solar panels are tested and rated at an optimal temperature of 77 degrees Fahrenheit under PERFECTLY CLEAR air and a PERFECT 90 DEGREE ANGLE to the sun. However, they all produce significantly fewer watts than the rated watts at temperatures higher than 77 degrees and significantly more watts at temperatures lower than 77 degrees. In our hot Texas summer sun on a 101 degree day, my 60W panel produces 36 Watts which is likely the best any 60 Watt portable solar panel will do at that high temperature. It works great for my needs to charge my 400 Watt portable power unit and my 12v Sealed Lead Acid (SLA) Absorbent Glass Mat (AGM) batteries. Purchasers should keep in mind that conditions different from the optimal test conditions will cause every solar panel to produce less (or more) watts than its rated Wattage capability.
Could be a life saver

So far I love this solar charger. Upon opening it is exactly what I wanted, about the same size as the typical hardback novel, the array folds up neatly. The integrated case has a zipper pouch that is large enough to hold all included accessories. Unrolled it is nearly 6 ft long, a bit longer than I expected, but hey it is 60 Watts. I immediately connected it to my boat battery, the primary reason for my purchase. The charger is working very well, and charging the battery as I write this review.

You see as we were at Lake Powell last week the battery voltage dropped critically low to the point we had troubles starting the motor one time. Thankfully it did start and after we were more careful about what extra device we were connecting and did not end up stranded. However, this meant nobody could charge their phones and we could not listen to music. Totally unacceptable.

I had been wanting to purchase this solar array for a while, to avoid that exact situation, but procrastinated due to the price. After almost being stuck, I decided not to risk it again. Hoping to head back to Lake Powell this fall. You see being stuck on Lake Powell is expensive. There are people that will come out to help, but they charge $150/hr. As we were more than 2 hours into the lake, the cost would have been over $500 for one incident. This makes the cost of this array look pretty reasonable.

Currently I have directly connected the charger to my boat battery using the provided clamps. I do not think that this 60 Watt charger provides a proper charging circuit for the 18V output and so that is a bit risky. If I allowed it to charge the batteries past 13.8V it could damage them, beyond 14.4V for more than 8 hours would certainly damage the battery, so an additional charge management circuit is required. The included connectors provide an 12 V SAE connection making it easy to expand and use other devices. Here is my current cart which will allow me to charge both batteries by simply connecting a single SAE connection to the charging panel.

12V 5A Battery Charge Regulator
http://amzn.to/2vn3wfD
This PWM charger will control the voltage applied to the batteries such that they will not be damaged if left connected after they are fully charged. Connecting the mat directly is risky. This 5A 12V size perfectly matches the 60W solar array.

12V 10A Battery ring terminals
http://amzn.to/2vmRKSg
These will allow me to permanently connect charging cables to the batteries so that I do not have to crawl into the battery compartment and connect up the alligator clamps that sometimes fall off. This will also avoid pesky sparks, and the associated risk of charing related hydrogen combustion, yes it's a thing look it up.

Extension Cord
http://amzn.to/2fdhPgl
The cable provided is far to short, either 1.5M (4ft) or 2M(6ft) long. This extension cord will give me plenty of length to reach my batteries and properly position the panels to best capture the suns rays.

Splitter
http://amzn.to/2vxhDiQ
I have two 12V batteries to charge. This splitter will allow me to connect both batteries to the charger with a single SAE connector.

See the attached pictures. The solar array was producing 22V without any load attached to it, appears to be working well. Attached to the battery load (lower voltage than the array) the voltage drops to 12.5V, the current voltage of the nearly dead battery (should be at least 12.6). The battery is a black whole for power where the 60Watt panel is concerned, so the voltage is brought to just above the batteries level. After a couple hours I checked again, and now the battery is at 12.88V, we are definitely charging.

There is one accessory that I will have to wait to purchase, a portable battery bank, that can be charged with this panel, and provide clean 120V AC power.

This is a really useful product. Especially suitable for camping and road trip (when the cell charging ports are all occupied by friends.)
My engineering friend told me this solar panel were surprisingly a decent quality and wondering where I found this,he also tole me this is a well-made solar charger in fields.
This comes with the small zipper pocket which can keep and protect charging devices. The straps are huge plus, it can easily apply any adjust to the charger panel on any surface, leaves the charger more portable and hands free.
No more half dead battery from being in storage!

So I wanted a slim solar panel that I could mount on to my camper trailer to keep the battery topped of while it is in storage. I ordered this panel based on size. It would fit perfectly in the spot I had in mind. When it arrived I was floored. It was built so much better then what I was expecting. First off the panel was ultra thin. Second it could actually be bowed around a slight curve. It came with suction cups for window placement and two attachments. one for direct connection and another to go into a 12 volt outlet. I tested this over a few days with a multi meter and it sat right about 18.2 volts during the sunlight hours. So far I am super impressed by this and can't say enough good about it. It does the job extremely well.
Does not deliver the power under the hot sun.
Ralph Copley✓ Verified PurchaseJune 20, 2017
Disappointed. Tried charging two different devices using the 18v connector and found that unit had to be fully exposed to the sun for it to work. Otherwise the power regulator stopped delivering power. But this resulted in a secondary problem, once the power regulator got hot it would shut down. To see if the problem was my devices, I left the unit sitting in the sun with no load... nothing plugged in at all. Once the unit was warmed up by the sun I plugged in the laptop for charging ( laptop was off ) after 30 to 40 seconds the regulator stopped providing power. Tested the USB port and found the same issue.
