pretty decent quality and fun to use

pretty decent quality and fun to use. We're recreational users so this was purely for fun in our basement. Basically, it is best to set this up on something permanently - an old table, something that you can keep open. I know that the folding quality is a main feature many people will buy this but if it's unfolded and folded a lot, it won't last long. It's just not durable enough with parts that are quality to endure that.
that said, it's fantastic on a permanent setup

Creating products that are portable generally means shrinking them in size, using lightweight materials or both. Unlike electronic gear, regulation sporting equipment can't be shrunk. The challenge then is to design lightweight materials through either new composites or elimination/reconfiguration of parts. EastPoint Sports takes that combination approach with their Table Tennis Conversion Top. By jettisoning the legs and breaking the whole top into two halves - that can be positioned on a flat surface - they have eliminated the bulk of a traditional table.
It's a great space-saving idea. Unfortunately, mechanical and manufacturing problems compromise a clever concept. Despite using composite wood materials, each of the hinged halves (there are two) weigh 40 pounds. You will need a table or other large, flat surface (the manufacturer shows a billiard table) that is at least 4-feet wide so that the 5-foot wide conversion top lays almost flush to the edges and the middle doesn't bow. We had the surface and the space, but moving around and setting up that weight proved too much for the flimsy hinges that join the two boards to make one half of the top (see pic 1.) Some of the factory-installed screws weren't flush, and a couple of them were sheared off (pic 2). I don't think the hinges are big and strong enough to support the weight of these panels through multiple use or play.
It's a beautiful item: the net and assembly, the table pads, and blue-colored boards are all well made for a decent price. The hinges, though, doom the entire presentation. If you have the room, stick with EastPoint's traditional table tennis product.

This table was a bit hard to set up, as it comes in 4 separate pieces which creates ridges that effect the game. Instead, I would recommend buying a 2 pieced table rather than a 4 pieced.
Not bad at all.

I did not give this five stars because it is a high quality item (it isn't). I gave it five stars because it is pretty high quality for the price. It's a heck of a value.
For the first week or so it was awesome, but now it saggs in the middle

Wouldn't work on the pool table because it has the leather pockets, so I bought a cheap ping pong table from a guy in town and put it on there instead. For the first week or so it was awesome, but now it saggs in the middle, both directions. I cant imagine how bad this would be on the pool table with only the edges supported. I would recommend just buying a complete table, I got an awesome one at Academy on sale for $225.00, a little more expensive, but if your going to use it for a while, just spend it because you really cant play on a sloping table!
