Love this item. A top notch representation

If another company has produced higher quality Star Trek figures than Quantum Mechanix, I am unaware. I absolute love the QMX Star Trek figures and it is because of their track record of quality that the company has shown that I purchased the captain's chair. It's pretty much impossible to tell from pictures whether the chair is made of high-quality materials or cheap plastic, but I put my faith in QMX to come through and my faith was not misplaced.

The chair is heavier than I expected and feels like a premium piece. It's a nice heavy plastic with plastic armrests. When looking at the pics I considered that the armrests might have been wood, but I would have been shocked had they been and they aren't. What did surprise me was that the seat has a fabric type material with a thin layer of padding underneath. This is a very accurate reproduction of the original chair.

The chair can swivel 45 degrees in either direction for a total of about 90 degrees. The swivel isn't the smoothest but it's ok. Clearly, they didn't use any kind of ball bearings and it's just plastic on plastic. The QMX figures fit perfectly in the chair and with their butts planted in the seat their feet just reach the ground and hands sit above the chair controls. The chair comes with four sound effects taken directly from the show and you can cycle through these pressing a button on the chairs arm. There are also light up buttons on either arm. My only issue is that the speaker is placed on the bottom of the chair and even though the chair is elevated slightly the sound is a tiny bit muffled. Seems like it would have been better to put the speaker on the back of the chair.

If you're springing for the figures, you gotta get the chair. The price from QMX's website is $129.99 and I got mine from Amazon for $99.99 from a third-party vendor. If you have the QMX figures displayed, then this is a perfect addition for Kirk. Or maybe you want to throw Spock or Scotty in the Captain's Chair. I don't think McCoy ever got a chance to sit in the chair. I don't think too many people who buy this chair are going to be disappointed because it's at least as good as it looks in pictures.
