MOST DEF RECOMMEND IF YOU'RE PLAYING FOR A WHILE... or laying down. I have huge pants pockets so that wasn't an issue, but it does add bulk, but you can easily pop it off, although I've left it on ever since I bought it.
It does make getting the stylus out a bit odd, but I have large hands and the design of the stylus is kind of odd to begin with so... not a flaw on there part!

The grip is made of sturdy plastic and clips strongly onto the new 2ds xl. The only major con is that the power button is hard to get to without the stylus. Also due to the necessity for structural integrity, the grip blocks the cartridge port on the front, which isn't that big of a deal since most games are digital download anyways.
