While this hook may have been designed for rock climbing, I've found another use for it. My son has a 20 acre (8 hectare) lake on his property. We use this rope to snag sunken logs/trees, bring them to the surface and remove them. We used to reach over the side of the boat and hope we'd find them simply by moving a rake back and forth to locate them, try tying a rope around them and hauling them up.

The product is as described with one exception. The only part that fails to respond to magnetism--a good test of 304 stainless--is the threaded part of the bar, male and female. Since this is the area that would cause the most trouble should it rust, that is OK with me although I may wish to add some lubricant on the pins that hold the claws. But it is not accurate to say that it is all stainless. A positive aspect of this design is that the pins are peened instead of held on by circlips as are seen on other brands, which are less secure.
