Kavu rope sling vs paxton
DI in SC✓ Verified Purchase•February 27, 2018
I purchased the coastal blocks pattern and was surprised when I opened the package to find that it was almost entirely different shades of green with black accents. I found the zipper placements awkward and the two front pockets to be very small and essentially useless. The deal breaker though was the flaps over the 2 front zippers which were stiff and hid the zipper pulls from sight. All of these design flaws made it difficult to get into the bag. I returned it and ordered the Kabu Paxton in a 2 tone Mojave print which has more useable space and is configured much better. Both cute but the Mojave is a dark blue with dark zippers and much easier to use when on or off the body. All in all a much more practical bag for every day use.
The side buckle is the best part!

I love these bags and bought this one upon seeing my friend wear one. This bag is pretty roomy, and would be a great every day bag or day-hike bag. I love the Spruce color. I also like that this version of Spruce did not have the white zipper. (There's one out there that does, and it makes it look cheap.) The side buckle on the strap is a really nice feature. I love that you can fully adust it to your body and put it on without slining it over your head. It makes it easier to put on while wearing big coats too! It has lots of zips and pockets, although the front velcro pocket is not quite big enough for a smart phone (I have the iphone8 with a lifeproof case on it.) The Front zipper pocket is plenty big enough for a phone, but I just prefer quicker access. It's great for carrying other items like chapstick and quick acess items, too.
I actually prefer the Kavu Paxton style pack to this bag, because I like the the outer pocket configuration better. There are less pockets on the Paxton backpack. The inner pockets are very similar in both (one big flat zip compartment.) It is a slightly smaller tear drop shaped bag. I ended up going with a Paxton bag (In Snow Timber- so I still got a bit of Spruce coloring!) over this bag, but it's still a very nice, well made bag. I am petite, so the smaller Paxton bag just looks better on me.

Recommend for Moms!

I purchased this bag to use as a bag to carry all of my 2 children's items for when we are out. I have plenty of room on the small side for my items (wallet, keys, papers) and the large side is great for my kids 2 water bottles/ sippy cups, snacks, a nursing cover, and 3 size 4 diapers with a small wipes pouch in the bag with no problems, on the large side. I feel like this bag really is great for Moms with littles. The outside top pocket currently has 2 bottles of eye drops, some chapstick, and a small hand sanitizer from BBW . My Samsung Galaxy 8 fits perfectly fine in the bottom pocket, and there is room to spare. I have also had a large reusable water bottle on the small side and it has been fine.
The bag itself is comfortable. I have been seeing a chiropractor about my shoulder and this bag doesn't make it hurt like my over the shoulder bags have. The pattern is very pretty and doesn't show dirt, another win for a mom on the go. The rope straps are comfortable. I have found that sometimes it does flip over or turn when I am wearing it, full or not, and if I adjust the way it is positioned it helps, but doesn't alleviate the problem completely.
I would recommend this to any mom looking to lighten their load with a diaper bag. This bag is very roomy for a grab and go bag. I do keep an small backpack for the baby in the car, but this way, my hands are completely free. I have even been able to wear this while wearing my baby in a carrier. it is nice that it can be a shoulder bag as well if needed.
I wish it had a pen holder accessible from one the bottom pocket, my pen tends to fall out from there if I retrieve my phone. I do wish the back side was more padded since I am putting larger bulgy things in it...but it isn't terrible.

Great for running errands or going out for casual lunch

I bought this to take with me when I go out to eat lunch with my husband. It is annoying to carry a purse where everything spills out if you hang it on the back of your chair and it falls off, or place it on the dirty floor where it can still kick over and spill. This has awesome secure zippers that keep all of my valuables in the bag whether I hang it off the back of my chair or use the strap to easily hold it on my knee. I can also wear it slung across my back where the bag falls securely against my side or slung across my front where the bag falls securely against my stomach. It is slim and light weight and the cat print material is easily cleanable. The lining is also cleanable and doesn't not scratch my iphone7 as there is a specific pocket for a phone, keys, and a longer zipper on either side of the bag to keep larger items separate like my kindle or iPad. This bag is also great while grocery shopping because it does not slide down my arm or flip around to dangle in my way when reaching for multiple vegetables/fruit like a regular purse. This is my go-to for daily chore running.
Bought one in each material, here's what I think of each!

So after days of contemplating all the different prints and materials, I ordered 4 kavu rope bags. One in each material, to see which one I liked best. Cotton canvas, polyester canvas, the lighter polyester, and cotton with PU coating. This review is for the polyester canvas in the Mohave print, hence the 5 stars (I gave the cotton canvas a 3 and the lighter poly a 3 and the cotton PU coated a 4). Here's my full rundown of each material...
The light polyester in the Arrows print. Cheap zippers and the hard pointy plastic coating that must surround and seal the top of the ropes pokes through the top of the bag where it meets the top of the ropes. The material is not thick enough to prevent that sharp ending from poking through. In comparing it to the other three bags, this one seemed to be the least sturdy and most cheaply made bag.
The cotton canvas was too brightly colored (Everglades tiles) and a bit stiff, and I can't get over the fact that it's not water resistant, and that other reviewers said theirs faded, so I'm sending this one back too.
Then there's the cotton PU coated one that I got in the black and brown Python print. It's ok but a bit too stiff and eh. Also, I thought it would be a safe print in muted color, but it just doesn't make me happy. Sending it back.
Now finally, the polyester canvas one that I got in the Mojave print...it's love! The bag is made well, it's sturdy but not too stiff, the colors are right, it's water resistant, and there are no annoying pokey parts!
The bag itself is the perfect size for me. I was worried it would be too big and bulky on my petite self, but it's just right! I plan to use it for traveling, but might want to break it in beforehand ;). ALSO, so many reviewers complained about the front pockets not fitting their iPhones and I don't know what the heck they're talking about!!! The small top one might be too small for the iphone, but the bottom one can probably fit the bigger iphone 7 plus. There's plenty of room! I agree with others that the zippers could be of a better quality though. Looking forward to this bag being my go to!!!
UPDATE!!!! - I returned it and lowered the stars from a 5 to a 3😔. The zippers are in awkward spots and I found it uncomfortable to access the stuff inside. I also found that it doesn't fit much, and I would sooner grab my LL Bean stowaway pack instead. This bag is probably more suited to people who don't need to carry much, and just want to keep their few belongings on their backs. In the end, I just found $50 to be too much money to spend on something that is just eh. I loved the straps and the look though, so I bought a knockoff for $14.95 that has the same rope straps! Not Amazon, but cheap enough to risk it ðŸ‘ðŸ¼
