Really elegant, high-quality material. Our wedding is on a rooftop, so I was worried about it being windy and blowing over but this base feels really secure.

We happen to have similar looking marble counters in our kitchen so this is a good fit for us.

Melamine is basically a type of dense plastic and in this case it does a pretty good job of looking like marble. Thus this is definitely an attractive way to display your cake or anything else like cheese spread, etc.

Cons would be this is not dishwasher safe and it is plastic at the end of the day so don't get it near your stove or a candle. As far as melamine kitchenware goes the build quality is nice and does not look cheap...I also have the serving tray set which looks a bit "cheaper" because it has some faux gold trim around the edges which I think detracts aesthetically.

At current price of $25 I think this is a pretty good value if you're in the market for a faux marble cake stand. 4-STAR rating by me in consideration of price/value.

It got here on time. The sugar & cloth a Marble was chipped and was not good quality. I seeing better quality. I don't like to give bad reviews but I was really disappointed.

I like the look of this cake stand, and I really like (in theory) that the top detaches from the base. With this stand you can decorate the cake directly on the plate, and then store just the plate/cake in the refrigerator. This prevents you from having to remove shelves from the frig to accommodate the combined height of the cake and the stand. The detachable base also makes it easier to transport a cake which was decorated directly on the plate.

But the problem I had with the stand is that it wobbles. The base is not very heavy or sturdy given the size of the plate it holds. When I tried to cut the cake that was on the stand, the whole thing tipped over. Thankfully the cake didn't slide off, but after that I had someone hold the plate while I cut the cake.

So this stand it looks pretty, and it is easy to store, but I won't put another cake on it.

I love these Sugar and Cloth products. I was not certain if the cake square would be strong enough to hold a cake and be able to cut it. The stand is very sturdy and the base fits together firmly with the top. I love the design and creativity of the product. Wonderful feel to the hand, almost like ceramic, but with no worries about breakage. Can be taken apart for easy storage. Nice job Ashley Rose! Follow her blog, Sugar and Cloth. Fun, fun, fun!
