my gunsmith suggested I try this Recover Tactical CC3 Grip & Rail
Tjomsland✓ Verified Purchase•April 27, 2018
I purchased a GSG 1911 .22lr pistol for California which you cannot purchase with Picatinny rails. I wanted to be able to attach my Crimson Trace Laser onto the pistol, so my gunsmith suggested I try this Recover Tactical CC3 Grip & Rail modification. It is very, very cool (can I still use that word?). Now, people look at my 1911 and wonder what it really is, just after they complement how great the pistol looks. Very easy 10 minute install. Except, I live in California. So, I had to use a Dremel to widen the right hand side notch along the top to access the 3 pieces (not just 1 push-out for the slide release) you need to remove to break down the pistol. In California, there is a hex screw, a pin and the slide stop/release to deal with before you can break down the pistol. Not the products fault, but Calirornia's fault. Overall, I am very pleased with this product, quality and feel on the pistol. (If I screwed up on any nomenclature/terms, you don't need to remind me of it.:)
Best $40 ever spent on a Gun upgrade!!

Just received this today and already love it. I really wanted a Sig with the sight rail on it but got a good deal on this one. So, when I found this Recover product, I was certainly interested. For the most part it already has great reviews so I trusted it would work. Installed in seconds and looks awesome. Just what the gun needed. Now I can add a light/laser combo for home defense. Make sure to install all screws before tightening any of them. Gives you a good chance to make sure the two halves are aligned and in the best position. Then tighten screws. I was a little concerned with the feel of the plastic versus the original soft rubber grips but you can hardly tell the difference. I'll add to the reveiw after a few hundred rounds. Just received my .45ACP AAC Tirant so I'm really iching to put some rounds through it.
Excellent Idea

Overall I'm actually pretty impressed this "Grip & Rail System" Though I can't say that I'm all that impressed by the cost considering it's just two molded pieces of HI-Polymer. That said, they are attached very solidly to the gun with little to no play, ensuring that a quality rail mounted laser should remain accurate and on target. One possible issue I noticed is that the 1911 I put this on has a bushingless barrel and requires a pin to first be inserted into the guide rod for disassembly. The gun's slide must first be locked open and then have the pin slid into position just in front of the end of the receiver. The grip system adds about another 1/2" to the length of the dust cover/receiver, making the pin hole in the guide rod harder to access, but NOT impossible. I've included a few pictures to show others what I mean and to suggest that future versions of this design have a slot already made in the grip system so others that have bushingless 1911s like mine won't have the same troubles.
A few other things worth noting is that this system does add a bit more to the circumference of the 1911s grip than your typical wrap-around, as such I opted to swap out my original arched main spring housing for a flat one instead. Also, shooters with meat hooks for fingers might find the trigger guard to be slightly more crowded depending on the style of trigger they're using in their 1911. Another reviewer also shows that the system doesn't fit perfectly flush with the frame around the the mag well. I had a similar issue but chose to not tamper with it for fear of ruining the grip system and throwing $40 down the toilet.
EDIT: 4/27/2017
After having this on for a while and having more time to consider the design I feel that I must upgrade my original rating of 4 stars to 5, this is partly due to how much I like this grip and rail system and partly for realizing the amount of thought the designer put in to its creation. I previously complained about an imperfect fit around the magwell and a gap before the front strap. I came to realize that the pistol the system is on has a perfectly smooth front strap, most 1911s however have a slightly raised and textured front strap for additional grip. If the grips were to fit flush on my pistol then they would not properly fit a gun with a raised and textured front strap. And quite frankly it's a lot cheaper to fit grips to a gun than to try and fit a gun to your grips.

Well designed way to bring a railless 1911 into the 21st Century.

The Recover Tactical Grip and Rail System does exactly what they say, it gives you a good sized tactical rail mount on your 1911 pistol without ruining the ergonomics of the gun. I mounted mine on an inexpensive ATI Govenment Model Deluxe. Fit was about 95% perfect except for a tiny amount of gapping near the top of the front strap. 1911 frames vary a bit size wise, so slight fitment issues are expected. Nothing a bit of sanding wouldn't cure. The grip is comfortable for a hard plastic and my Tactical flashlight fit the rail perfectly.
All in all, I can highly recommended the ReCover CCH3 as an inexpensive and practical way to make a railless 1911 into a modern Tactical accessory friendly pistol.

It would have gotten 5 stars from me if its was perfect right out of the box

HonestReview- I purchased this for my GSG 1911-22 AND it almost fit perfectly out of the box! Just almost....., but I'm not mad. It would have gotten 5 stars from me if its was perfect right out of the box, but it wasn't. I had to shave some parts near the trigger to make it a good fit. I also had to shave near the safety as it would not go down fully. This was all easily fixed by using a utility knife, but be careful when you make these cuts. Overall I'm pretty happy about it. The product itself is really useful and now I can mount a light on it. The sucky part about it is that with a GSG 1911-22, you have to take this grip off to be able to take your gun apart for cleaning, which may or may not be an issue to you. Take a look at my pics as a reference to the adjustments I had to make to fit my GSG.
