Rope Sling vs. Paxton Pack
K.S.✓ Verified PurchaseJuly 24, 2018
If you're like me you see that there are several different versions of this bag with slightly different names. The one I purchased was made out of a polyester material, not too thin, not too thick. It really is not a large pack/purse. The pocket on the inside of the main pouch is not large enough to accommodate a 7+ iPhone. However, the large pocket w/zipper on the front is. The small Velcro pocket is perfect to toss your keys in. When you're looking at the bag head on there is the main large pocket on the left side - two small pockets in the middle - and on the right side there is a smaller pocket the smaller pocket on the right side of the front is not large enough to accommodate my 32 ounce Hydro flask. This is really a day pack and it was made substantially heavier by the simple inclusion of my wallet. This is a very small pack and if you needed to bring an extra shirt or pair of pants I don't think you would be able to put anything else in this bag.

I also purchased the Paxton pack. The purpose for this purchase was to be a day pack to carry the stuff I need for my kids for a day out. The Paxton pack is my choice for the following reasons. The mesh pouch in the Paxton Paxton large interior pocket goes from the top of the bag to the bottom allowing you to keep much larger items secure in that main compartment. It also has a pocket built into the back panel that is large enough to accommodate a 7+ iPhone. The zipper pocket on the front of the packs and pack has a lanyard and it so you can hook your keys on it also that pocket goes all the way from the bottom to the top of the bag so it is not just a pocket on the bottom portion you could put something in there that is longer. The zipper pocket on the front of the packs and pack has a lanyard and it so you can hook your keys on it also that pocket goes all the way from the bottom to the top of the bag so it is not just a pocket on the bottom portion you could put something in there that is longer. It does also have a mesh cupholder however it is not a great size for me but I will still use it for kids cups. I would definitely be able to pack diapers, wipes, snacks, my items, and still be able to wing this thing around easily.

The bag seem to be made very similar, water resistant, ripstop polyester material.

I spent about two days pouring over different reviews and comparisons of all of the different bags and my advice is this-if you want something cute get the rope swing or one of the variations of that bag. If you want something a little bit more functional get the Paxton pack
Overall a great backpack that is perfect for exploring a big city and a breeze to travel with.

I bought this for our weeklong trip to New York. This was the second one I purchased, after returning the first one due to the color (coral) being very different from the picture shown. The return was very easy and the second backpack color (taupe) came very true to advertised. This backpack was great as a small carry on, it could carry my 24oz metal water bottle, a jacket or a sweater, my phone and wallet, headphones, a power bank, an extra pair of glasses, a Nintendo switch, a medium sized book, and it still had room. It was great for walking around the city and was easy to take on and off which came in handy during rush hour on the subway. We got tons of compliments from people about the bag's look and the rope strap. We didn't have any problem taking it in with us to Radio City Music Hall or the August Wilson Theater and the bag fit well underneath the small seats. I am taking away one star because some of the color of the rope strap did rub off on my white shirt, but it was pretty faint and did come out in the wash. Overall a great backpack that is perfect for exploring a big city and a breeze to travel with.
Recommend for Moms!

I purchased this bag to use as a bag to carry all of my 2 children's items for when we are out. I have plenty of room on the small side for my items (wallet, keys, papers) and the large side is great for my kids 2 water bottles/ sippy cups, snacks, a nursing cover, and 3 size 4 diapers with a small wipes pouch in the bag with no problems, on the large side. I feel like this bag really is great for Moms with littles. The outside top pocket currently has 2 bottles of eye drops, some chapstick, and a small hand sanitizer from BBW . My Samsung Galaxy 8 fits perfectly fine in the bottom pocket, and there is room to spare. I have also had a large reusable water bottle on the small side and it has been fine.

The bag itself is comfortable. I have been seeing a chiropractor about my shoulder and this bag doesn't make it hurt like my over the shoulder bags have. The pattern is very pretty and doesn't show dirt, another win for a mom on the go. The rope straps are comfortable. I have found that sometimes it does flip over or turn when I am wearing it, full or not, and if I adjust the way it is positioned it helps, but doesn't alleviate the problem completely.

I would recommend this to any mom looking to lighten their load with a diaper bag. This bag is very roomy for a grab and go bag. I do keep an small backpack for the baby in the car, but this way, my hands are completely free. I have even been able to wear this while wearing my baby in a carrier. it is nice that it can be a shoulder bag as well if needed.

I wish it had a pen holder accessible from one the bottom pocket, my pen tends to fall out from there if I retrieve my phone. I do wish the back side was more padded since I am putting larger bulgy things in it...but it isn't terrible.
Almost perfect!

I love my KAVU rope bag.
Pros- color, style, material and size are all great!
I have a toddler so I bought this bag to not only be a purse but double as a diaper/necessity bag. When looking online I was worried it would be too small to hold everything I normally carry. I was pleasantly surprised to find numerous pockets and that it has plenty of room for everything.
Cons- I wish the crossbody rope was reversible. You can only carry it across your right shoulder. Also it has a small elastic band to help keep the excess strap pulled up and out of the way but it doesn't hold it still and falls open. Not big enough concerns to change my overall opinion. I will be buying more!
Bought one in each material, here's what I think of each!

So after days of contemplating all the different prints and materials, I ordered 4 kavu rope bags. One in each material, to see which one I liked best. Cotton canvas, polyester canvas, the lighter polyester, and cotton with PU coating. This review is for the polyester canvas in the Mohave print, hence the 5 stars (I gave the cotton canvas a 3 and the lighter poly a 3 and the cotton PU coated a 4). Here's my full rundown of each material...
The light polyester in the Arrows print. Cheap zippers and the hard pointy plastic coating that must surround and seal the top of the ropes pokes through the top of the bag where it meets the top of the ropes. The material is not thick enough to prevent that sharp ending from poking through. In comparing it to the other three bags, this one seemed to be the least sturdy and most cheaply made bag.
The cotton canvas was too brightly colored (Everglades tiles) and a bit stiff, and I can't get over the fact that it's not water resistant, and that other reviewers said theirs faded, so I'm sending this one back too.
Then there's the cotton PU coated one that I got in the black and brown Python print. It's ok but a bit too stiff and eh. Also, I thought it would be a safe print in muted color, but it just doesn't make me happy. Sending it back.
Now finally, the polyester canvas one that I got in the Mojave print...it's love! The bag is made well, it's sturdy but not too stiff, the colors are right, it's water resistant, and there are no annoying pokey parts!
The bag itself is the perfect size for me. I was worried it would be too big and bulky on my petite self, but it's just right! I plan to use it for traveling, but might want to break it in beforehand ;). ALSO, so many reviewers complained about the front pockets not fitting their iPhones and I don't know what the heck they're talking about!!! The small top one might be too small for the iphone, but the bottom one can probably fit the bigger iphone 7 plus. There's plenty of room! I agree with others that the zippers could be of a better quality though. Looking forward to this bag being my go to!!!
UPDATE!!!! - I returned it and lowered the stars from a 5 to a 3😔. The zippers are in awkward spots and I found it uncomfortable to access the stuff inside. I also found that it doesn't fit much, and I would sooner grab my LL Bean stowaway pack instead. This bag is probably more suited to people who don't need to carry much, and just want to keep their few belongings on their backs. In the end, I just found $50 to be too much money to spend on something that is just eh. I loved the straps and the look though, so I bought a knockoff for $14.95 that has the same rope straps! Not Amazon, but cheap enough to risk it ðŸ‘ðŸ¼
