Bought a 13 year old brand new fridge
Andrew✓ Verified Purchase•August 23, 2023
It had been in a 3rd kitchen in a large large home for years. Still had the packing tape and foam inbetween all the shelves and drawers. Anyways of course I bought it. Drug it home and plugged it in and it wasn't cooling. Did an hour of research and decided to give this a shot. I put took the old thermostat out and out this new thermostat in in under 20 minutes. Fridge works amazing now.
it works as a replacement for a 216715500, at least 2 months in now, for me. YMMV.

the official replacement thermostat for my fridge (an older prosumer almost commerical frigidaire model) costs $400+, cheapest generic like $200 I could find it the listing looked questionable. After reading all over the internet, I decided to try this one since lots of people say they got them to work. Indeed it did, I had to drill holes to mount it to the sheet metal since it didn't pop in like the original. Also, I have to turn the knob all the way to the "warmest" setting, but that keeps my fridge at like 33 degrees which is amazing. I can't make it any warmer but don't want to anyway so works for me, if I turn it 'colder' the fridge starts turning into a freezer. But again this is serious DIY hackery so I don't blame the part. I imagine if it was in the machines it's rated for it'd work better with the adjustments. I'm super happy at saving the money.
Make sure mounting is the same if don't wanna modify

It works, not much more to say about the function of it. Will say it cycles more than should I believe. Off for 10 on for maybe 5. Iam aware there are limiting set screws on it but fridge is holding around 35 and freezer between 0 and +5. I put the "sensor wire" exactly where original was. All that being said, I put this in a very early 80's GE fridge that only the thermostat in fridge part controls both fridge and freezer. I stopped using it year back and was fine, decided to plug it in for hell of it and nothing! No typical bad compressor starter/relay noise so told me no power to compressor. I pulled the cover off thermostat, jumped the wires and started right up! I plan on really cleaning this fridge up and repainting it. Why? Because why not I guess? It works just fine other than it's not frost free freezer. Anyway, others say their fridge turned into a freezer, maybe they didn't put the "sensor tube" where original was? Idk? But it can be calibrated with a few Google searches I assume. I am leaving mine as is for now. Also I have it set half way as original. Just need to drill 2 new mounting holes and button it up.
Update! This thermostat is very inconsistent even after calibrating it. Yes you will probably have to calibrate it. It would cycle on for maybe 5mins and off for little over 3mins. Then run for half hour and off for again for 3mins. Which caused over cooling of fridge, so readjusted the cut in and out set screws. Was fine for week or so then just wouldn't shut off. Save your money and buy something better. When I took it back out could hear something rattling around in. Better off just putting a toggle switch on fridge with a thermometer and manually cycling it!

Did the job, was about to toss the fridge to the curb but thought well why not, it's not like I haven't wasted $15 somewhere else before. And low & behold it did the trick. Now I have less garage space because that's where it ended up. Get ya sum.
Updated review after adjusting with the set screw for this Thermostat Cold Control

After installing this I read all the low reviews. We all have the same problem. It is not calibrated or designed for a refrigerator. I read that these have a tiny screw to adjust but it went on to state you should never mess with it because they should be set from the factory. Well this one was not adjusted or calibrated from the factory. It turned my fridge into a freezer but luckily I didn't just set it & forget it. At first I had to turn my cold dial almost to off to get it to cycle. I wound up tweaking that adjustment screw and eventually got it dialed in and my refrigerator has been working very well and maintaining a steady cold temperature on the refrigerator & freezer sides having it set to the middle normal range just like new. It took a while to get it right but it has been running good for a couple weeks now. I did reach out to BlueStar by email but they never responded. I'll throw them a bone and will not knock off another star for that. Good luck.
