This SCOBY was just beautiful!! Thick, beautiful in color and super healthy! It came fast and well packaged, and was suspended in starter tea that also had a bunch of good stuff floating in there. I have seen that most people here try to make a big batch of kombucha with it right away, but I started small by adding just a small amount of tea in there with a decent amount of sugar so that everything in there would be more concentrated and it grew a HUGE SCOBY in no time! Been making delicious batches of kombucha with it ever since and I couldn't be happier! Thinking about starting a second batch soon (I can't have them ready fast enough! This stuff is delicious and I stay drinking it!) and I'll definitely be purchasing another SCOBY from them :)

My SCOBY travelled quickly across southern CA and arrived looking very thick and healthy, with a diameter of about 5" and a sturdy strand of yeast that I suspect managed to grow during the 2 days since packaging, I am very pleased with the healthy state of it and the very reasonable price. My information sources have given me some concerns over the small diameter and small amount (1/4 cup) of starter tea in with the SCOBY, but so far, so good. I set the SCOBY up in a quart jar with about 3.75 cups of sweet tea plus the starter. I covered it with a piece of a flour-sack tea towel secured with a rubber band. If I get a good growth in the next 5-6 days, I will have enough starter liquid to relocate it to a gallon jar. Time will tell, but the SCOBY sure looks strong right out of the package.
UPDATE: good success with this SCOBY. Transferred SCOBY, its new baby SCOBY, and ALL the brew to a gallon jar after 5 days. Going great!

I was very impressed with the SCOBY as well as the amount and taste of the starter liquid. The SCOBY was thick, consistently shaped, and smooth in appearance. It is light in color, indicating that it is a young SCOBY and I have many brews to darken it up a bit until it is replaced by the many SCOBYs I expect from future brews. While I understand that the SCOBY doesn't have to be attractive, I'm glad I got a good looking one to start. I had a 1/2 gallon jar filled with room temperature sweetened black tea ready for it. I took the smallest taste of the starter liquid, it was fine, before pouring the rest into the tea. The starter liquid was filled with many floating bits, indicating a strong healthy starter liquid. Gave the tea a quick stir then carefully slid my handsome SCOBY into it. It doesn't matter if it floats, sinks or something in between, but it floated and fit well at the top of my half gallon mason jar.
This was a random selection from the many choices I had from Amazon, and I am glad I chose this one.
