This Magnet is amazingly strong, and if you are looking to "fish" for metal artifacts in a lake, etc., this Magnet will not disappoint. I use mine for storing tools, but its uses are endless.

I purchased this magnet because I randomly stumbled across a magnet fishing video on Youtube and just had to give it a try. Thus far I have pulled a few things out of lakes. Mostly lures, screwdrivers, knives, and other things of small size.

- Look and feel:

This magnet is relatively small when compared to how much weight it can supposedly hold. It's also light as well. But when you hold it you can tell it's made of tough steel that won't break easily.

- Strength:

I decided to conduct a test to see if the magnet could really support 246 pounds. One thing I have come to realize is that most magnets do not live up to their claims with regard to how much weight they can hold. I've had a 75Lb magnet lose it's grip with only 40Lbs of weight during testing and I've had a 165Lb magnet lose it's grip with only 90Lbs of weight during testing. My method was easy. Stick the magnet to an elevated metal weight plate and see how much it could hold at the other end of the rope before losing its grip. Surprisingly it was able to hold all the weights I had available, which totaled 125Lbs (see pictures). I know this is only a little more than half of what it's rated for, but I'm still impressed. I wish I had more weights to put on it to ascertain its real gripping strength.

- Cons

1. The eye loop acts as a bolt which screws on to the middle post, holding it all together. I had to use a hot glue gun to prevent the eye loop from becoming loose and detaching from the base. I found that no matter how tight I made it, after about 10 casts it would come loose. If I didn't constantly make sure it was tight, the magnet would have eventually come off during a cast or while being dragged back.

2. After two weeks of using this in fresh water I am already seeing rust on the steel.

- Conclusion

This magnet is capable of hauling some serious weight and the large diameter is better than magnets with smaller weight limits. It's important to know that (if you're using this for magnet fishing) the diameter size of a magnet is proportional to its weight limit. The more diameter you have, the more area of ground you can cover per cast.

The item arrived faster than we thought. No issues with shipping or the product that came. The magnet appears to have a sturdy build and has a strong magnetic pull. I bought this item to easily find bolt and screws that's fall onto grass or a shop floor. Because of the magnets strength I do plan to use this for magnet fishing too!

My 10 year old grandson was showing me Magic Mike's magnet fishing videos on Utube. What a hoot! It was the first day of spring break. I ordered Big Teddy's magnet from Amazon and it came in two days! My grandkids and I had plenty of time left to enjoy magnet fishing with this great little magnet. It is plenty strong and made very well. I did put lock tight on the threads for security. Good magnet and good value.

Great size and seems to have a pretty good pulling strength. My first trip out to the lake using it I managed to pick up some interesting things. The eyebolt definitely needs to have some thread locker applied and I needed to add a DIY soda bottle shroud, but other than that this magnet worked perfectly. I'll probabky order a second one for my daughter.
