Amazing tool to help release compacted muscles
Helene N.✓ Verified Purchase•September 3, 2017
I love this thing! I was a little skeptical at first because of it's odd and seemingly bulky shape~ but I now understand the purpose behind the construction. Nothing else up to this point has helped to release some of those tightly contracted and impacted muscles I have in my back and thighs. I use almost all parts of the Back buddy, but especially appreciate the #11 knob (pointed knob at the end curve) to really dig into the area in and around my shoulder blades, the areas directly on either side of my spine that tense up, and I even use it on the base of my neck directly where it meets my spine to pull up (like a "hook" in a sense, hooking upwards, with the back buddy in the air) to release a muscle correlated with my stiff jaw and headaches. It is perfect. I also use the #3 knob to "pogo-stick" if u will, along the front of my thighs, which tighten up when I run. It's also perfect for stretching out your feet and subsequently your calf muscles when u raise your leg in the air and use leverage to pull your leg and foot towards you, if that makes sense. I am constantly buying tools to help relieve muscle pain, and this one I consistently reach for time and time again.
Game changer for fibro!!!

Let's see...I'm 29 and I have: disc degeneration, stenosis, scoliosis, arthritis in my entire spine, bulging discs ranging from 9mm to 4mm, fibromyalgia...among others.
This. Changed. My. Life. I am literally writing this using the Back Buddy. I'm typing with two hands, and have it perched directly on a trigger point as I'm watching Netflix. I get epidurals and trigger point injections every month...this could dang well replace that. I'm picky with my back, it's caused me more issues than anything. It's truly that good.
I've never in my life found any medication or product that provides this type of relief. Thank you, from someone in their 20s with the muscles/bones of an 80 year old (as my doctors tell me...), THANK YOU. You've given me freedom to have mobility, less pain, and not having to pester my boyfriend for massages. Win-win-win!

Everyone should have one. The best!

I don't know how I lived without this for so long. And you would be missing out if you got the other kind without the hook on both ends. Notice all of the knobs and small variations from side to side...this MATTERS. Each feature has a specific function that lines up perfectly with the body. Unreal. This will keep me out of physical therapy so often. I'm mostly using it for shoulder blades, spinalis muscles, and trapezius. I don't find as much relief using it on the lower back just FYI. It's great on obliques and neck too.
Great for myofascial release

I really like this, it helps a lot with my myofascial pain. My mom tried it and really liked it for her neck, which was broken years back so it releases a lot of tightness she experiences from the surgeries she had, I'm going to get her one. My dog also loves to chew on it... that's not related to the product, I just want you to know he's a jerk.
Look no further, GET ONE OF THESE!! It's well made, and if you use it right, it works great!

Just got mine today and I already love it! It seems really well made, high quality plastic. Looking closely you can see where they even buffed out any rough edges that it had from the molds. Time will tell, but it should be more than strong enough for even the toughest muscle knots. It's very rigid in all the directions you would pull against. If you grab the opposite hook ends and twist it though it will probably break. -No reason you should do that though, so don't. I figured out pretty quickly that you don't need to pull very hard to hit those deep knots in your back, you just have to figure out how to use the tool efficiently. I have degenerative disks, sciatica, and generally a very tight back and I just gave myself probably the best deep tissue massage I've ever had. Anyway, just relax, and with it hooked over your shoulder, grab it somewhere directly in front of you and pull straight forward. Slowly move it around and find those sweet spots. If you are trying to use it like a lever, or like a prying motion, you're working too hard, and probably not getting the desired effect. With minimal effort it should dig plenty deep enough to hurt a little. If you do it right, the pointed knobs can literally feel like an elbow with full weight on it. Anyway, I hope this is helpful for someone considering this tool. I'll update my review down the road if my opinion changes, but in the mean time, this thing was well worth the 30 bucks I spent. Same price as one massage most places I've been. =)
