I bought a different brand earlier but really like having spreadable butter readily available so bought this for a second home. I finally had the brilliant idea to take the stick of butter and smoosh in into the top while still wrapped in the wax paper, using the paper to press it into the cup and smooth the top. Then you put water in the bottom to the fill line, invert the butter cup into the water and voila - nice spreadable butter kept at room temperature without spoiling. Very rarely I find mold with the older one and have to scrape it out and rewash the crock but 99% of the time it's fine.
Great way to have fresh, soft, real butter always available.

I've had another butter bell/keeper for several years and love it. We try to stay away from margarine and fake butter that is mostly chemicals. This butter keeper is the best way to have fresh butter soft and ready to use. I was a little nervous about buying another butter keeper online but this one did not disappoint. I bought one for myself and one for my daughter who is getting her own place next month!

We purchased this Butter Keeper to replace one we had that was lost. First thing I noticed is that its capacity for butter is larger than the one we had. It accommodates a 1/4 pound of butter with about 3/16" of extra space. This makes filling it easier, and keeps the water from touching the butter when it is full. The little reminder line in the crock makes filling it to the correct level easier as well. We like it!

I've been using this for three weeks now and we love it! It is very easy to use...just make sure the butter is nice and soft to begin with. I spoon it in tamp it down and level it off. Just make sure the butter is of spreadable consistency and you can even add more butter as long as you tamp it down good. I just tried that because some reviewers said you couldn't and it worked good' I plan to buy my kids some of these also!

I would have given this five stars, but it arrived chipped. The packaging and padding was amazing. The product had padding between the two pieces of porcelain. There was a porcelain chip inside the bottom container. It fit perfectly into the upper piece of porcelain. Because of the fantastic packaging, I think this was damaged while packaging for shipment. I did superglue it back together. If it were easier to return, I would have. I really like the line inside the bottom container that tells how much water to add. I have had the butter keeper for almost a month, and the butter has stayed inside the bell just as it was designed to do. I did make sure the bell was clean and dry. Then I packed the soft butter into the bell with a spatula. Some reviewers have experienced mold growth at the water line. I change the water as part of my cooking routine, and have experienced no problem with mold.
