I have tried many brands of hand held can openers and after a very short time they all bit the dust. When I came upon this Swing-a-way can opener, I had had a vague recollection of this being one of the first can openers I'd ever have owner and it didn't crap out within six months to a year. It just seemed to go on and on for at least 5 years. So that inspired me to purchase this can opener and I have not been disappointed. It

This is a fully metal can opener with grips covering in the handle. It's the old school type of clamp and turn, very sturdy.

I have been on the hunt for a good can opener for years now after my Xyliss safety opener finally bit the dust. This is not a safety opener, but it's the best I've found so far (I had 6 (!!!) different can openers just a few months ago & tossed the others after finding this one!)
It bites through the can easily & inches around the top without having to squeeze hard on the handles or go to the gym to lift weights in order to be able to turn the handle. It feels sturdy & well-made, and even with the numbness I have in both hands, I can now open cans with relative ease. The non-slip handles help a lot here, too. I wish I'd found & tried this can opener a LOT sooner!
Btw, the other style of Swing-Away can opener with the longer crank handle is better for tall/XL cans, but it's harder to use with regular cans. This version works with both, though the longer handle on the other definitely makes it better for 28+++ oz. Cans.
