This stuff is expensive and didn't work for my son's ...

This stuff is expensive and didn't work for my son's moderate diaper rash at all. The formula was so thick that it would stick to my fingers and not to the raw affected area. I ended up washing his bottom with soap and water and letting him air dry after every soiled diaper until the rash went away. Now when he starts to get a bit red I just use A&D ointment and that prevents a full blown rash from developing.
Not just for babies

Ok, so that title might sound a little gross, but we've been using this for my dad who's in his 80s and unfortunately isn't as mobile as he used to be. The nurse noticed that on my dad's posterior the skin was showing signs of breaking down. To keep things from developing into full on bed sores dad had to do a combination of standing more (which is difficult for him) as well as apply an ointment to the effected area. This was the ointment we used. It started helping him on day 1. The name Butt Paste also made my dad chuckle which made him less reluctant to use something for babies.
You may need to mix

It's paste you put on a baby's butt. Works well, neither of my children have had diaper rash. The biggest and only downside is that when it arrived and we first opened it, the ingredients had separated. There was one are that was similar to clear gelatin. Had to dump entire contents onto a paper plate and mix before returning it to its container. It was a mild pain, especially when we opened it because we needed it. Not sure if this indicates that the container was old or may exposed to extreme temps. After mixing, everything was fine, but this is the reason I am not giving it 5 stars.
Did not work for us, small tub size compared to competitor

I can't recommend this Maximum Strength Boudreaux's Butt Paste for diaper rash, mostly because it did not work for us. Our baby had severe diaper rash, like a "burn" per our pediatrician, and based on our pediatrician's recommendations to "smear it on like cream cheese", we originally used a whole tub of the Original Boudreaux's Butt Paste on her. Her diaper rash got better but did not clear up. Thinking what you are probably thinking, we thought Maximum Strength would be better so we purchased this product and again, smeared it on very thick after each diaper change. The diaper rash did not improve despite this and actually spread to other parts. In hindsight, I'm not even certain that the Original Boudreaux's Butt Paste helped and maybe it was more our diligence about drying her between diaper changes, airing her out, etc.
What worked for us? Triple Paste. We have only been using it a few days and things are dramatically better. The redness has receded and the remaining spots of diaper rash are disappearing thankfully.
Also, you may wonder about cost. For some reason, these tubs are all labeled as ounces in weight. But I only care about volume because I use a decent sized dab each time and don't care how much that weighs. We purchased a 16 oz tub of Original Boudreaux's, this 14 oz tub of Maximum Strength Boudreaux's, and a 10 oz tub of Triple Paste (from a B&M store, this size is not available on Amazon). Each tub has a diameter of about 3.5" but vary in height (3.75", 3.25", 3.5") and this yields 36.1 cubic inches, 31.3 cubic inches, and 33.7 cubic inches for those three tubs, respectively. So despite the Triple Paste weighing only 10 oz, it actually has a greater volume aka amount than this tub. I've attached pictures to show the size of these tubs.

Odd Grainy consistency, unlike the store bought
Nirys&Ash✓ Verified Purchase•December 30, 2017
Did not have a smooth creamy consistency, felt "grainy" so I was afraid to put this on my baby. I went to target and bought the exact same kind and the consistency was like day and night with amazon one being grainy and the target bought being smooth as it should.
