This unit is solar rechargable - however it does take time to recharge (days for a full charge). On a weekend trip I use the latern in the campsite on Friday and Saturday evening - then use the USB plugs to charge my phone over Sat night. When I get home if I have the time - set the lantern out in the sun to recharge or plug in for an overnight recharge.
