Great product at the relatively cheap price. To make my review short, let me only tell you the following.
1. Today (1/5/2018), I went to a senior center at Issaquah, WA and asked 3 seniors to try using it in a big meeting room while watching TV. The seniors are aged 79, 80 and 94, respectively, with different levels of loss of hearing (the 94 year old could barely hear without his hearing-aids worthy of hundreds and $2000+),
ALL three of them told me that they could hear very clearly. The volume of the receiver needed to be turned quite high for the 94-year old, which was felt too load by the other 2 seniors.
2. I even tried to use it on my computer, and it works satisfactorily.
Before I bought this product, I compared it with a couple of other similar products. I liked this design and the price.

This speaker works perfectly for my elderly mother. The one large knob is simple for her to control the speaker. She is very happy with this speaker. She can now listen at a much lower volume level since the speaker is near her seating position. The speaker did not conflict with the television speakers. Setup was easy using the instructions included. I connected the optical cable to the TV Cable box and then into the unit base.
Then plugged the base into power using the included power cable. Another power cable is included to power the speaker instead of using the on-board battery if desired.
