Excellent Gravel Vac - but with modifications

I was disappointed with this gravel vac and was going to toss it, so I decided to modify it to see if I could get it to work better.
The blue tube that connects to the head is way too long. Unless your tank is 5 feet above your bucket, it won't maintain a good siphon. I cut the blue tube back to a few inches with a hacksaw (see pic) and it made a world of difference. Drains nice and smooth now.
The white screen inside the vac head is a nice addition. It keeps chunks of gravel (or a fish) from winding up in the dirty bucket. However some dirt does get stuck on the slots, so it needs to be washed after use.
The valve at the end of the drain hose (see pic) is worthless. It's a good concept where you can slow down the flow for smaller tanks. But all it does is reduce the siphon where it either breaks with air or doesn't pick up gunk anymore. If you have a 10 gallon or less size tank, buy a smaller siphon than this one.

This is my 3rd aquarium cleaner for my 10-gallon tank. The other 2 hose cleaners were hard to use and easily they broke. I really like this cleaner, the material used is sturdy, the hose was easy to attach. The pump is strong and effective, I pumped the pump twice and the water quickly moved through the hose.
No hard work trying to get the water moving through the pump. The mouth of the hose is wide so you can use this for a much bigger tank.
However, it took more water than actual debris and other fish waste. Not saying it didn't clean at all, BUT it took water a lot quicker. Still, not a huge issue, I like this cleaner and I would still recommend it to friends because it was effortless to get the job done.

This is one of the easier ones I've used to clean my fish tank I do recommend letting it sit in hot water till it softens and then lay it straight out on the floor to cool off it makes a lot easier to use I do wish it came with a clip to help hold the other ends in the bucket but it's very easy to get started
