My 4 year old loves Boulder! It's bulky and robust and withstands being dropped carried around and repeated transformations. He's not so keen on the shovel part in bot mode and leaves that off but uses it in digger mode.
A good toy

It's a plastic toy from a TV show
It's very durable

My 2 year old nephew loves it.
Mechanatomically incorrect, but still fun!

My 4yo discovered Rescue Bots while we were going through the Netflix kids list. He's been hooked ever since. We've been getting him to do exactly what we want, when we want him to by bribing him with these things. He's got a few now, mostly the smaller ones but he noticed the bigger ones on Kev's Toys on Youtube (darn that youtube stream, darn it to heck!) and has wanted it since. Well, we got him to potty (#2) pretty much 100% by promising Heatwave (that's the big red fire truck) and with that success, we've been messing with other things. Recently, I awarded him this guy for letting me cut his hair in peace. I should say, relative peace. I did go through about 3 minutes of tearful sorrow with him proclaiming, "Daddy, why did you break my hair!? You broke my hair daddy! Bad daddy!" but after that he got over it and from there we were good.
In terms of build quality this toy is pretty good, on par with the rest of them I'd say. The plastic is heavy but not too heavy. It doesn't feel flimsy or easily-breakable. I'm not worried about him dropping it. The design seems well thought out. The shovel arm is very well made and separates into 3 pieces, my guess is so that it can take a beating. His transformation is also very easy. My son did it in 5 seconds flat (and can easily reverse the transformation). The figure itself is also pretty good because the arms move around, unlike most of the other figures' body parts. Once the arms have been moved it can be a bit tricky to get it back into vehicle mode, but if the arms are pressed in, it's easy (again, my son figured this out on his own). There are 4 wheels but they're very close to the fake treads so it's definitely not meant to roll around on carpet, this is similar to Heatwave. Sure, kids can push it along on the carpet, but it won't roll off on its own and some kids like to push toys and make them roll away. Even on tile it doesn't get that much traction. His feet have a bar that keeps him standing up, so no worries about the figure falling over constantly. As you can see in pictures, the arm loader can be put into his hands and becomes a...erm, weapon? My son's longest owned rescue bot is quite a few months and the only thing wrong with it is the paint is rubbing off a bit. This to me, is great. I'd rather paint wear than cracks and breaks.
My only issue with this toy is that I don't quite know what he is. In the cartoon, Boulder is technically a bulldozer. I'm assuming this is a new model that will either be in the upcoming TV show or something that didn't quite make it into the old show. The way he's posed in the picture is technically useless. I mean, his shovel arm is not going to magically stretch to his front to shovel anything and it's pointing the wrong way to shovel from the rear as well. If you twist it around, it'll actually point in a somewhat usable direction. Anyway, as the Britney Spears song title goes, "Not a girl, not yet a Woman", Boulder here is "Not a Bulldozer, not yet an Excavator". He's something in between, I guess. A sweet Cybertronian-Earth miracle. They should have included a bulldozer claw accessory and added a hole to the front. Then he could be both, power Excavator-esque AND a Bulldozer like he is in the show as opposed to what he can functionally do right now which is neither bulldoze nor excavate.
Oh well, my 4yo doesn't give 2 hoots, he loves the toy anyway and since it's his, I'll shut my mouth and give this thing 5 well earned stars.
