The grip is fine for light things. And you have to maneuver an item to grip it. The arms when unfolded do not lock and can collapse.

Three stars as I like the product but one broke on the first day (the release spring failed). The other is doing its job. I bought them to pick up dog toys and other objects in the yard so I don't have to stop my zero turn mower frequently.
