The bell arrived in perfect condition! The bell itself hangs properly. I think the ones who are having trouble did not put it together right. Look at the sellers photos and you will see how it should be. As far as it not coming with mounting screws, they do not know what surface you are mounting to! I have a variety of screws on hand always, so not a problem for me. As far as rust, It is cast iron! The whole thing is painted/coated to protect from weather. The only part that would need some extra is where bell screws into sunflower. Maybe coat that area with clear nail polish?

This bell is an awesome addition to my home. It is both useful and attractive. It's also an instant conversation piece for visitors who for whatever reason are attracted to it and can't resist the urge to ring the bell. Sone don't even ask. I use it to call my family to dinner. We live in a large old 2 story home. I am on oxygen and becane short of breath whenever I had to call out to let them know that dinner was ready. No more! I simply ring this beautiful LOUD bell. It fits right in with the decor. It's beautifully designed and constructed to last multiple lifetimes. I wish I had found this beautiful bell years ago. The sound is perfect. It also resonates nicely. I do not like bells that tinkle or dink. I prefer a bell that resonates with a deep ring and this one does! It also can be heard all over the house. I treasure this beautiful mounted bell and plan to buy some note for gifts to my relatives who also have fallen in love with it.
