My kid wears a size 10, is 4'2" and weighs 67 lb- I read reviews that recommended going one size up, so I ordered a 12- It's waaaay too big.

The tail is a vibrant, bright blue with water droplets on the pattern and made of a thicker, swimsuit material, the actual tail part tail is a bit large when fitted over a Fin Fun monofin (which is the other brand of tails we have pruchased in the past) and the velcro doesn't stay hidden, but it's okay for a cheaper alternative to the pricey tails on the market since it will most likely be tossed at the end of swim season--- once she finally grows into it.

Holy amazing Batman! This simple swimsuit magically transformed my daughter into a real live mermaid! Unfortunately this super awesome transformation came with some serious side effects which she now regrets. Contrary to popular belief, mermaids can't breath underwater, so she actually has to swim pretty hard to keep her head up or face drowning (which would totally ruin the mermaid experience). She's also kind of lazy and the amount of work involved in actually swimming the whole time she's in the pool is not so desirable, but I explained that's how she keeps up those mermaid abs.

It turns out birth mermaids don't pee, or have another mechanism, while costume mermaids have to use typical land-based solutions. This can be complicated with a tight fitting body tail.

Lastly, and most disappointing to her, is the realization that her brothers don't really see her as a Trans-mermaid, but continue to refer to her as their little sister invoking her sis-gender. Lots of micro aggressions.

So much fun! My 10 year old daughter is a competitive swimmer and we love lounging at the pool in the summer. She loves mermaids so I thought this would be fun to have. We didn't buy a monofin but her practice fins work fine with it. She said using the fins helps, as it's a "workout" to swim with the tail on and no fins! HA! Looks incredible in and out of the water, fits great, good quality fabric. I would NOT recommend this for a child who cannot swim well unassisted.

We have two of these and my girls love them. If they didn't hop around the pool deck on them, they would be in great shape. But because they do, they are getting snags. No tears or runs, just small balled up snags. The material is like swimsuit material, so no different than the bum of a well used swimsuit. They are plenty long so my girls will be able to use them for several years before they outgrow them. The model find is sold separately. I think any fin will do. They got the tails this summer and the fins for Christmas. They work perfectly together because the bottom of the tail is velcro and will fit over any shape of fins.

My 11 year old daughter loves this. I bought a size 14 because I was worried it would run small, but I definitely think I could've gotten the 12. I gave four stars because the picture made it look like it had a little more shimmer to it. Nice buy for the money though. Would make great gifts for anyone who loves mermaid. I also bought the body glove swimming fin. The fin fit pretty good, but had I bought one size smaller I believe it would've fit perfectly.
