"GOOD" Kilt - but not the best. . . .
Brian✓ Verified Purchase•July 13, 2018
I've had this kilt for nearly a year now. "NOT BAD", but buying from "UT Kilts", I could have done better and spent less money.
My 4 other "UT Kilts" are far better quality (and about $ 10 less expensive). More about those in a moment.
This "Black Watch Tartan is made of "Polyviscose" - which is NOT the most durable quality. The material feels like a sweater that doesn't stretch. Sort of a comfortable soft wool, so if nothing else - at least it feels good (cool in summer, warm in winter).
It appears BLACK WATCH is the only tartan that uses this "Polyviscose". Maybe this is what the Black Watch uses (?).
In addition to the ominous "POLYVISCOSE" - another red flag you'll want to avoid is the phrase "ENTRY LEVEL". Maybe they say this because it's nicely soft against the skin (?) But this softness sacrifices durability. :-(
Looks good, and the sway is good. Again I've had it for about 1 year now.
I'm nitpicking because when I buy my next kilt, I want "the good material".
This in mind (& having purchased six kilts in about 3 years), here's what I've found:
UT Kilts is a reliably good company, who always sells a good product.
My personal opinions:
"Poly-Cotton Blend" = Good,
"Polyviscose" = Bad.
It's GOOD if it says "Not just those new to kilting..."
It's BAD if it says "Entry-Level Kilting".
Unlike the disappointing soft wool "Polyviscose" - the superior "Poly-Cotton" is more akin to a durable "light weight canvas" - every bit as comfortable, much greater durability, often less expensive.
Most Noticeable Problem is the SIZE. Yes I'm familiar with the size differential in kilts compared to US clothes. In US - my waist is a size 42, and in kilts, my size is 46. It fit my [huge] waist just fine HOWEVER - this kilt was still "somewhat SHORT". The the hem is too high up above my knees (which is more unique to a ladies "skirt"). Not the end of the world; just be sure to order 1 size up.
Overall - this is a GOOD kilt. But knowing what I know now - my next kilt will be more durable.

Fits as expected and very well put together.

Fits exactly as expected provided you read their sizing guide. These are actual size not standard pants sizing. I wear a 32 Jean and in this kilt I wear a 38. My natural waist is 37". The kilt has some adjustability with the side straps. The cargo pockets are free floating and not sewn down to the kilt. I originally intended to put my keys in them and run a 5k but decided I didn't want them banging around since the pocket is only sewn down at the top. They are plenty big to store your phone, wallet, and more. The colors are great, and the fabric is heavy, plan to wash it immediately since right out of the bag it smells like fresh acrylic.

This is a mixed review. The kilt itself is very well made, out of a sturdy (if rather heavy) material, and the pockets are quite nice. I also liked being able to get it in Blackwatch tartan. It's really convenient to be able to get a quality kilt with Prime shipping in two days that is so inexpensive because it's not custom made, but that's also the downside. One size fits most.
Because it uses snaps around the waste instead of the traditional belts and buckles there is no adjustability for size up or down. I wear a 33" pant, so a 37" kilt, which they didn't have so I got a 38", and it turned out to feel much too big. Had to get a belt and cinch it way down with a bunch up of fabric at the back. It also feels about 2 to 3 inches too long, hanging past my knees. Again, the things that make it convenient and inexpensive are also the drawbacks. I don't regret getting the utilikilt, and it's still fine for casual wear.

Wow this is perfect! Well made, great colors and pattern. So sexy on my man! I used a tailors/sewing measuring tape to get correct waist (right above belly button) and he measured 32.5" so I ordered a 34. It fit perfectly. A little bit loose, just like a pair of pants would fit, so he wears a belt.
Guys, Start Wearing Kilts!

I can rock a kilt and find them to be beyond comfortable. I've taken to wearing them for the hell of it when going out. ALWAYS get compliments (and a few gropes to check to see if I'm wearing it "authentically" - behave ladies!). If you measure as the description suggests, you can't go wrong with the fit. The pockets are great for carrying everything (you'd need a sporran if you wore a plain kilt). The fabric is fantastic, soft, and not too hot in a South Texas climate.
