The material is tough yet it cuts easily and cleanly with scissors or a hobby knife. I used it to cover two fireplace vents to eliminate drafts in the winter. I discovered the side of the material with the smoother finish faces opposite of the metal you are going to stick it on. The rougher side with the barely visible lines is the magnetic side and it makes a huge difference which side faces the metal. The company shipped this very quickly in less time than promised.

I did notice that one side is more adhesive than the other. I used this to block the air vents on our cast iron wood stove in the summer to keep the smoke smell from getting into the room.
