Don't get this if you can't stand adorable things. The photo doesn't suggest its true size (4.5" by 2.5" by 2.4") because the two small knobs below the large tuning knob are really small. You'll grasp them with thumb and forefinger to operate, and you may need to pick up the radio to do that. Not a problem because it's the kind of object you'd pick up and handle a lot anyway. The honey-tone veneer wood case is perfect, just as solidly built and well-finished as the Sangean WR-16 it's a partial replica of. Bluetooth connects easily, and once set up, it automatically connects as soon as I turn the knob to Bluetooth.
Sound is surprisingly good for such a small speaker, for voice, podcast, or music. I know they're doing a lot of signal processing to get tiny bluetooth speakers to sound really big these days, and maybe Sangean is doing that with this little unit too. But don't expect this to sound big like a Marshall Willen or a Tribet Stormbox. This is more of a radio that has a good bluetooth capability. Plus it has a serviceable 4.2 bluetooth version vs the 5.3 bluetooth you find in the Willen or Stormbox.
Where this WR-7WL shines is for someone who listens to radio news or podcasts on a patio while sipping coffee. If you want an easily portable radio that can easily switch between your podcast and your NPR station this is it.

An outstanding product when used with the right expectations

I truly feel privileged to get to write a review for this wonderful radio. It is without question a five-star item as long as the buyer has the right expectations, which I'll explain momentarily.
First, it's important to note the size of this unit. The pictures I've seen did not give me a true sense of how small this is, but it's roughly the length of a stick of butter. The on/off switch and volume dial are about the width of a pencil eraser. I like the size a lot and feel that it will work perfectly on a bedside table, which is the reason I purchased it.
The design is the most outstanding feature of the radio, in my opinion. It carries over the same high-quality fit and finish as other Sangean table radios. I feel that the design of this radio is an improvement on the venerable Sangean WR-11, as I like the WR-7's backlit radio dial and the satin finish on the dark cherry unit. If anyone from Sangean reads this, know that I would also be an immediate buyer of a full-size version of the WR-7.
Here is where I feel that buyers should have appropriate expectations. Sangean tunes their radio speakers to yield a FLAT frequency response. The sound is akin to studio monitor headphones which can be disappointing to those who are expecting huge bass. If you are looking for overemphasized bass, Sangean is not the brand for you. If, like me, you appreciate a flat frequency response, you will love the sound of this radio. As a former radio station sound engineer, I love being able to hear each FM station's unique processing characteristics on this radio. Those who listen to talk or sports radio will enjoy how balanced voices sound. Music on the Bluetooth connection has a clean, neutral sound which can fill a moderately-sized room when the radio is placed in an optimal location. If you're not initially happy with the sound, give the radio some break-in time and play with the placement of the radio in your room. Note especially that I said "room;" I feel strongly that this radio should not be used outdoors.
The battery life is most impressive and far exceeds other Bluetooth speakers I've previously owned. Note that the battery will take some time to charge and will thus require the user to plan accordingly for long-form listening. Also note that while plugged in, there will be some interference on FM signals which is no fault of Sangean. Performance on the radio is best when the FM antenna is plugged in and the unit is running on battery power.
Kudos to Sangean for designing an outstanding another outstanding table radio.

We love it, it has beautiful sound quality that you just can't get with plastic. It picks up a lot of FM stations and even works well in the car!
Fantastic

So, I had the bathroom radio that I'd had for close to 40 years die. At the time it was one of the few good clock radios that had good sound. I thought I was totally out of luck. I got a bunch of replacements of a similar size that weren't really working out and then I got this little guy and it is truly unbelievable. The sound is actually better than the JBL mini speakers. The radio reception tuner is really phenomenal and doesn't even require the antenna that's provided. It is so much better than the older FM tuners. The quality of sound for NPR morning talk is staggering with its richness. For music it is good, although I don't listen to that much. I like the sound better than the larger Sangean radio products, which are good but a little lifeless. Anyway, I now have three of these little guys and they really are fantastic. One thing I did for use in the bathroom is put a coat of quick dry Minwax polyurethane on just to make it a little more moisture resistant. I just cannot more strongly recommend this product.
