Great Sound, Unreliable Performance
Arn Poe✓ Verified Purchase•August 13, 2023
Of all my portable synths, this device is the funnest to play with and produces the best sounds! The software is great (it gives you a few more parameters to play with and let's you back up and organize sounds), and I loved it the first week I had it!
Unfortunately "¦
It doesn't work for long by battery. That was a disappointment because I'd purchased it to have an option for designing patches when I'm away from the studio. I could carry around several spare batteries, but "¦
About a week in I decided to update the firmware. I'm not sure if the firmware update was the problem or if it was trying to use MIDI "¦ but the device almost consistently gets an immediate ERR message a few seconds after turning it on, and if I make it past calibration it gets the error message after I play a few notes from another MIDI device.
I haven't had time to patiently troubleshoot it, so maybe it's not a serious problem.
I gave it 4 stars because the sound is (was) great, and with optimism that I'm only experiencing a temporary issue.

Amazing

For the cost, It's a must. The only real drawback in my mind is it's limited connectivity options - it would be fun if there was CV inputs but really that's just nitpicky. The sounds are huge, the workflow is innovative, and it's just a really cool piece of equipment. All that plus a fully analog signal path, really you need to snatch one up. A great monosynth addition to any setup.
Do you have a Stylophone Gen X-1 and like it, but want something a little more advanced?
Christopher R✓ Verified Purchase•July 28, 2023
The headline is basically my reason for getting this thing. If you like the kind of sounds the "regular" Stylophone or it's more advanced brother, the "Gen X-1" model, has, but want something that has way more tweakability and features, I think this is just about perfect.
Fun Synth, Crappy Support

Great little synth for the price, but man was their support just embarrassing level bad. Had some initial issues with which audio cable to use since I had to order 1/8". Ended up ordering the wrong one (TRS). E-mailed support to confirm which cable to use and they responded "standard 1/8" AUX cable." If you search Amazon for "standard 1/8" AUX cable," you'll get a bunch of TRS cables when you ACTUALLY need a TS cable, something I figured out on my own (but not after buying multiple wrong ones). This info is not in their user manual either.
The synth is really cool!

Things I like: Can save patterns and presets. Arpeggiator has many modes. If you connect the synth to computer you can store unlimited amount of sounds you make and load them any time into a synth. Computer app gives even more options for tweaking sounds. When registering the unit - register it to the whole new email address as if you gonna sell it in the future you will transfer license easier, otherwise new owner has to pay 20 bucks to transfer license for the software.
Things I don't like: The body of my unit was curved. It does look like it comes like that from the factory as there is no damage signs at all. The body of the unit shakes when you press buttons on the right lower corner and I had to put two layers of double sided scotch tape to level the surface. Also sometimes my synth scroll presets on it's own and if I haven't saved preset I work on - it's gone... I feel like the unit I got was just a return item and I got it next as it was 149.99. I wonder if I'm right...
