Perfect fit for Oakley Jackknife 2.0
RickO✓ Verified PurchaseOctober 12, 2023
These ear socks are a perfect fit for the Oakley Jackknife 2.0! I gave 3 stars for "ease of installation", because you have to have strong fingers to push / pull them on to the arm. The socks need to be a tight fit to perform as expected on the frame arm.

I have a "large bridge nose", and these Oakley's fit my face perfectly. This frame is out of production, so I decided to repaint them, before having new lenses fitted. The old ear socks were shot, and needed replacement. These new socks look and feel great on my head. I show a picture of the finished product. These glasses were looking rough before I started the rework process, and the folks at my optometric store were pessimistic about me being able to revive these glasses. They praised the end product, after fitting the new lenses. Everyone I run into comments on how good these old glasses look!

As other have mentioned, you need to fill the inner diameter with dish soap. Just stick the end of the sock into the end of a finger push soap dispenser. Go slow, the soap will flow into the hole. I also cleaned the residual with a water damp cloth. You will need good friction by your fingers on the rubber! From here, you need to squeeze the sock at its entry onto the arm, while you are pushing and wiggling with your other hand, directly adjacent to where its starting to enter the arm. You need to be pushing and pulling repeatedly, and wiping the outer diameter diameter occasionally with cloth to keep residual dish soup squeezing out on surfaces. The leading edge will be stretched with tension, and aft end will be in compression, creating like a bulb at the leading end of the arm as you pull and push, respectively. Resist using your finger nails, since this could damage the rubber, and be patient. I was able to get each sock on in about 10 minutes.

Overall, great product, they came fast, and this seller sent the ear socks in a nice little pouch. Very pleased!
Need to be patient to install the earsocks on a Jackknife 4.0

As others have indicated hot water makes the earsocks more flexible to work with. The difficult part was getting the process started. I had to use water just under boiling and let the earsocks sit in it for about 30 secs. Dish detergent was not effective as it would get on the outside and cause my grip to slip even using a towel. Once the first part was barely on, I switched to the other side to do the same, reheated the water to boiling, then dipped the frame with the earsock on in the water for about 10 secs. At that point, it was slowing twisting/pushing the earsock on and redipping the earsock in hot water to keep it flexible.

Overall, the earsocks are a great replacement for the original.
Worked for my Oakley Rhinochaser OX3111-0254 glasses

Based on other reviews, I let them soak in hot tap water for about 5 minutes. I put a little bit of dishwashing soap on the end of a pair of needle nose pliers and pushed one of the ends slightly onto it to stretch it out. I then put some dishwashing soap on the end of the glasses and using a paper towel, pushed the previously stretched end onto the frame. It took less than a minute. Bottom line, the black color actually looks as nice or better than the grey ones that originally came with the glasses and cost a fraction of what those replacements would have been ($30 with shipping via ebay). I put this review here because I had a hard time finding ear socks for the Oakley Rhinochaser and hopefully this will help someone searching for the same.
Will need lubricant and hot water to install!

Read everyone's installation review before trying to get these on. Socked olive oil through them like a straw, threw them in boiling water, removed them with tong, grabbed them with paper towel and twisted them on back and forth as the slid on. Took about 10 minutes. It was a bit of a pain but so much better!

Thank you to the other reviewers that made it clear these weren't just going to slide on and gave some ideas I used.

Before you start, lay the Ear Socks in a pool of hot water. Go as hot as you can stand but do not scald yourself. There is likely no need to boil. Use hot tap water. Leave them in the water a minute or two. Then-

1) Fill the Ear Sock with dish detergent. I used Dawn. See the picture for an idea of how to do this. The picture shows part of what I did to fill it. The other part was to push the Sock slightly into the spout of the dispenser and use my fingers to keep the detergent going into the Sock and not on everything else. It will get messy anyway. You should see the detergent come out the other side of the Sock when this part is complete.

2) Wrap the Sock in a paper towel as I show in the picture. This will prevent slippage due to detergent.

3) The hardest step is getting the initial 1/4" to 1/2" on the frame. If you get even 1/16" on the frame, use a fingernail from your hand to hold the Sock to keep it in place. Then try like heck to get more of the Sock on. I found it useful to rotate the Sock while applying pressure.

4) Once the Sock is on the frame 1/4" to 1/2" it will stay put. Adjust the towel so you have a good grip on the part of the Sock that is now on the frame. Rotate the Sock while putting pressure to slide the Sock on further.

You will have it pretty quickly following this method. I had it done in less than 10 minutes.

When I was done I attempted to get as much of the detergent out of the installed Sock as possible. The only way I could do that was slide it slightly up and down the frame while running it under hot water. I am sure there is detergent present in the Sock but I am not concerned.

They seem great overall. They are stiffer than the OEM parts I removed. Hopefully they last a good long time.
