Metal trains, plastic tender cars, and fragile plastic connectors
EFoz✓ Verified Purchase•July 24, 2023
I loved the size of this set for the price. My 3 yr old was super happy with the variety of trains included and she plays with them almost daily. But the clips are frustrating to her vs the ease of magnet connectors on our other train cars. She somehow ripped the whole clip out of Rebecca on the first day and several other clips have opened up enough that the train and its tender no longer stay connected very well. The set was advertised as metal, which I felt would be robust, but the engines are at best half metal while the tender cars are all plastic. We've had this set since Christmas and nothing has broken yet, but my daughter knows now to be gentle with the trains and the clips especially.
These fit on our wooden train tracks, which is a big perk of this set, but overall I wish the construction was better and all of the trains and tenders were metal as I was led to believe.

Good size for toddler size hands

This was a gift for a 2 1/2 year old who has just discovered Thomas and his friends. Good size for small hands and easy to take along when going out. He is really enjoying running them over different surfaces. The only reason for the 4 star vs 5 star is that it is tricky to hook them together, but they come apart quite easily so he needs help when playing with them.
Good quality

Well made
Great Set

This is a great set, especially for the price. Some pieces are more sturdy than others. Harold is diecast for example, but other trains rely more on plastic. It was honestly better quality than what I expected, though. The only thing that I might warn other parents about is that these rely on hooks and not magnets to connect. This is frustrating for toddlers still mastering fine motor skills and frustrating for parents who get asked many times a day to connect or disconnect cars. They're also not compatible with any other trains my son had which rely on magnets. Overall though it really is a great beginner set for a little Thomas fan and our son loved this Christmas present.
Awesome metal set

I love that these trains have metal and are not just plastic. They were a Christmas gift for my son and have really held up so well. No broken trains or messed up paint yet, and this is with him constantly taking his toys in the bath and shower.
