Perfect for our use
Amazon Customer✓ Verified PurchaseJanuary 25, 2024
I wasn't sure what to expect buying custom made blinds on Amazon, but these really exceeded my expectations. The fit is absolutely perfect, right to our specifications, and the entire assembly fits exactly as we expected in our recessed window area. (The amazon page for the product gives good measurement tips, and the manufacturer even reached out to us one more time via email before locking in the dimensions and creating the shades for us.)

Installing the thing was a snap; the brackets that come with it are cleverly spring-loaded so once they've been screwed into place, it's relatively simple to push the shade in gently against the springs- and then the whole thing sort of locks into place. I was a little skeptical at first about the brackets' ability to hold the shades up, but after installation it all feels very solidly attached... the bracket system does work well and even gives the motor operation a tiny bit of spring cushioning. (I would not expect it to hold up to very heavy use - for example if my kids tried to do pull-ups on the shade - but I think that's fair.)

The remote came pre-programmed so all we had to do was put them up, plug in the motor, add the remote battery, and boom it was working without any extra effort from us. (I did end up customizing the bottom-most extent of the shade and that was very simple to do, following the instructions that came with the kit.)

The shades themselves do block most of the light with only minimal bleeding around the left/right/bottom edges where the shade does not touch the edge of the recessed window area. Very satisfied with the overall light blocking performance.

One note to keep in mind: The optional solar panel needs a bit of extra room on the end that has the USB connection, because the USB sticks out from the side. I'm planning to purchase a right-angled USB adapter in order to make the solar panel fit correctly with the power cable attached in the place we were planning to use it.
(EDIT after a couple weeks of use, I realized the solar panel does not charge the motor battery enough if it doesn't get direct sunlight, and switched back over to AC power.)

Overall we're very pleased and satisfied with these shades and we're considering buying another set for another room!
Great roll up blind

Great room darkening blind that was very easy to install and all dimensions were exactly what was ordered.
Works great and love the remote, the only drawback that I have and minor at that, is the blue led. It's very bright and can be a bit annoying when trying to sleep.
However it was fairly simple to just put a piece of black tape over it and now it's perfect.
Fantastic Quality for Price; Works (P440) with Alexa

I don't write many reviews but I noticed a lot of confusion around the Alexa functionality in the reviews here, so I thought I'd clarify a few points so others didn't need to spend as much time as I had spent linking to Alexa.

First, the shade itself is fantastic. It definitely is black-out. Some light of course escapes from the sides but they tell you to allow for this in your measurements if you go with the outside mount like I did. The motor is not loud at all, in fact I think it's slightly quieter than some of the bigger name brands friends of mine have. It does at a couple points make what I can only describe as a slight grinding noise when raising or lowering the shade but not a huge bother.

Installation is not complicated, but if you have a wide blind like mine, you will probably want a second set of hands to help hold it in place while you level it and mark your drill holes, since a level mount is critical.

As for Alexa, I ordered the P440 smart motor, which supports the ZigBee protocol. What this means is that you either will need a separate ZigBee hub to connect it to your Wi-Fi, or one of the Amazon Echo models that has a ZigBee hub embedded in it. So, some of the older descriptions say the shade is only supported by three Alexa models, but there are I believe five or more now. I for example purchased the Amazon Echo 4 (not on the older descriptions as supported). Just ensure that whatever model you buy includes a ZigBee hub. Pairing the motor is then as simple as pressing the small reset button on the end of the shade four times, followed one long 3-second press, which will pulse the shade once, and then it's in pairing mode. (This is shown in the instruction manual, but it's a little confusing to decipher.) At this point, ask Alexa to "find new devices" and she'll find it after a few seconds via her built-in ZigBee Hub.

One note: The commands to "Open the shade" (or whatever name you give it), or "close the shade," do not work. Rather you have to say to what length specifically, so "close the shade to 100%" will put it all the way down, and "open the shade to 0%" will open it all the way. It cannot support fractions of percentages, so if you set a custom open or close point, it won't be able to stop at that spot with the voice command unless it's on a round number percentage. For example, my custom close point is about 97.5% of the length, but I have to choose 97% or 98% with this feature.

However, the capability to establish a routine is extremely helpful. Now when I wake up and ask Alexa to "start my day," this includes opening the shade. I also set it to close the shade about 20 minutes after sunset each day, which it will compute and activate automatically.

Don't let the other reviews and questions confuse you. As of at least November 2020, the Yoolax shades with the P440 smart motor DO support Alexa models that have a built-in Zigbee hub, with easy setup.

All in all, very happy with this purchase.

I love my new motorized blind! It's quiet and fit exactly as I measured. There is a definite learning curve to ordering and installing, however.

In ordering, order the exact size that you want - the company does not make adjustments to the size you put in your order, it's best you make the adjustment yourself. For instance, for an outside mount, I measured the exact height and width of the window opening. Then I added 6" to the height and 6" to the width to get the measurement for my order (the extra 3" per side is what Yoolax recommended for an outside mount. The company will message you and ask you to verify the measurement as an added precaution. The measurement you put in the order is the exact measurement your blind will be, so if you have doubts, you can message Yoolax through Amazon. I found them to be responsive and answered all my questions within 24 hours. Also, if you purchased samples for your blinds, Yoolax will refund you the price of your samples upon ordering which is nice.

I received the item within a few weeks of ordering - was quicker than I expected, so that was great. The installation of the blind was very simple. The directions were easy to follow. I installed the blind (84" width) by myself. The remote control worked from the beginning and is easy to use. The color/fabric I chose works perfectly with my room, so I am very happy.

So my biggest issue was integrating with Alexa. There was a big learning curve in getting the blind to work with Alexa without purchasing an additional hub (the whole reason I ordered this blind). I had to order a specific Alexa Echo Spot - I thought I could use any recent version of Alexa Echo, but no, you must use the 4th generation (it costs about $100). It took two tries to get the right Alexa equipment, but then Alexa did not recognize the blind controls. This led me to contact Yoolax again. They had me reset the blinds, and once I did that, I was able to use Alexa with the blinds. So this was not a quick setup - it took a couple of weeks to really fine tune Alexa to work with my blind.

Now that I have everything set up correctly, I think this was a good buy and I would purchase blinds from Yoolax again. The price point is so much better than the Lutron Serena Shades at 3 times the price (which I also have). Lutron Shades are hard-wired or run with batteries whereas Yoolax Shades are charged. You charge it once and you get about 100+ uses before you need to charge it again. I just hope it lasts!
I absolutely love these blinds! Alexa integration tricky.

This is yet another product that I did a lot of research on based on reviews mostly. We use motorized blinds at work a lot, so I had a lot of history concerning features and what's important to choose. Having said that, you are just blindly (pardon the pun) buying these blinds without even touching them or seeing how they operate. In the case of these particular blinds, they have turned out to be extremely well-valued, well-made, durable, and attractive. So far, no disappointments! Sort of...

They claim it integrates easily with Alexa, but I have not been able to get this part fully integrated. I think it's mostly I haven't spent that much time trying. With all of my other smart devices in my home that integrate with Alexa, this one has not been easy to figure out. Again, don't let this influence your decision because the blinds themselves are extremely nice!

I did not do the installation, but I watched them being installed by my brother-in-law and sister and they had them done in probably an hour and a half. The key, as always, is to get your order Dimensions perfect when you're ordering. I chose a blind that will go over my window instead of trying to fit within the window frame. I just felt like that would be a safer way to make sure this thing fits right. I really enjoyed the ordering process that this particular seller uses. It was very easy to follow! Again, when you're buying things unseen, it feels very daunting to make sure you got all of your measurements perfect. If I can get all of the measurements perfect, you can too! Measure a lot! Get others to help confirm your measurements. It pays off to receive these custom blinds and have them fit exactly as you want to!

THE REMOTE: The blinds come with a funky little round remote and I find that it never seems to do what you want on the first attempt when pushing the little symbols on the round dial. Instead of it having actual buttons, the remote uses little symbols like the sun, the Moon, a heart, a pause... Sounds kind of weird, but it's kind of a cool layout and Design.
The problem is, let's say that your blind is fully closed and you want to open it. Logic says you would just click on the Sun and it would just open the blind. Well, this part is true except for the fact that I usually have to hit the sun symbol as many as three to four times before it finally engages. Just so you know, this is literally the only negative that would justify any mention.

BACK TO ALEXA INTEGRATION: I know I said that the Alexa integration is not smooth and logical, but again, that might just be my lack of effort. I'm sure I'm doing something wrong.

THE MOTOR/CHARGING: The other thing about these blinds that I like is that the battery for the motor seems to last a really long time. I think they claim one charge can last up to 6 months. I have not had been long enough to test that, but I believe it. These blinds have a motor at the top Under the balance... If you choose to have a balance, that is. Regardless, it's either right at the top on the left or on the right. Mine is on the very top left so that I could charge the motor from my desk below my window. You can simply charge this blind motor with one cable from the motor itself down to a USB port on a laptop for instance or a powered USB hub. The blind does not come with the cable, but you can easily just buy one. Depending on the distance from the motor to wherever you're going to charge from, you just have to take that into account. My distance is probably 6 ft and I have plenty of USB cables to accommodate. I want to say that the cable is a USB-C (motor) to a regular USB 3.0 (charge source).

I hope this helps as I have yet to see anyone going to this much detail about charging the motor.

Overall, I could not recommend this blind more!
