My mother has a 3.5 lb. Teacup Yorky. I was concerned that the space between the slats would be too large, allowing the dog to pass through. The space between the slats is just shy of 1.75 inches. There is no way that dog is getting through.
I was pleasantly surprised that the gate had substantial weight to it. It would require a decent amount of force or weight to push it over.
It's safe for my mother (82 y/o) as she can swing one of the panels open to get by, rather than having to step over the barrier.

This fence is amazing! I use it during Christmas to save my tree from my dogs and I also use it in a regular basis to keep my dogs from running after the broom every time I clean lol it's very sturdy and it looks very nice.
