Very well made real leather. Looks handmade, with natural variations in the leather tanning. Stiffer than another bag we tried, so it would stand upright with items inside it and probably would not have ripped easily. It was just a bit large for my husband's needs so unfortunately had to return it, wish we could have kept it

Well, I don't have any problems with this bag I did review were someone said it smelled bad. It does have a smell but it wasn't anything that a day of airing out wouldn't take care of. The Leather is not the thickness of Leather's and it's totally fine because the price honestly it's more than fair for the quality of the bag. I'm using the bag often. And I have no issues with it. I think it is more than fair based on the price. The only thing is is, there's really nowhere just for pencils but that's no big deal. I would definitely buy this if he was considering it.
