I've been used to the various "wasabi" pastes and powders available for my home sushi eating. Even when we get take out sushi, the green ball that comes with the food is usually dense, with a hard, sharp bite but not much other flavor. My wife ordered me some quality uni for my birthday, so we have now been experimenting with getting quality fish to complement our home sushi dining experience. Of course, the wasabi game has to step up to match. This wasabi has been fantastic. The paste is a little looser, so it's easy to pick up a dab from the bowl and spread on the fish/rice. It definitely has the horseradish bite, but it is much more subtle, with almost a floral aftertaste. I wouldn't go so far as to compare it to freshly grated wasabi at a restaurant, but it is a significant step up from what's available from the grocery store. My only concern is the shelf life. Since we don't use much each time, we have been storing the open tube in the refrigerator. Not sure how long the flavor will last before it degrades, but so far it has been going strong a month in. For me, the cost has definitely been worth it, especially if we are already spending so much more on premium fish.
