I have an older non-digital meat thermometer and it takes forever to read the internal temp. But I've always found it to be relatively accurate. And just kept relying on it. Finally, though, I decided to go digital. What I love about it is how quick the reading is. The old one took 30-45 seconds to get a reading. The digital one took 1 second. And I tested the non-digital against the digital and they both gave about the same reading. I'm a fan!

So I got a crappy pencil thermometer that came from one of my bbq gift set and was wayyyy off. Didn't want to pay $100 for a Thermoworks and decided to buy this based on the positive reviews at a fraction of the price. Thanks to Prime I received this unit in 1 day. Package came with instructions and an extra battery which is a bonus. Instructions were clear and also included instructions on how to calibrate it if it's off. It's very simple to use, you just pull the probe out and it will turn on automatically. It has a hold button to hold the temperature while you take out the probe as well as a backlit light. The last button switch between ºC and ºF. I tested this with both chicken and bread. Reading was fast about 4 seconds and temperature was pretty accurate. This thermopen says it's waterproof but instructions says it shouldn't be soaked in water too long? I will continue to test and provide an update shortly. Best thing is this thermopen is lifetime warranty so piece of mind for a fraction of the price of a Thermoworks!

I have always considered myself pretty careful about food safety. I thought I was cooking adequately based on cooking time, temperature and appearance. Then 4 years ago I bought my first meat thermometer "“ this Deiss PRO Digital Meat Thermometer. Turns out cooking time, temperature and appearance are just guessing points "“ and I was often guessing very wrong.
So now I always check with my thermometer and have the satisfaction of knowing the food is safe. And, as an extra bonus, I also get a more consistently pleasing taste.
So . . . 5 stars.
But I wish I could give an extra star or two for incredible customer service. A few days ago, when I was drying the probe of my thermometer after a thorough wash, the probe pulled out of its socket. I carefully tucked the wire back and reinserted the probe, but the unit only displayed gibberish.
So I went on Amazon to buy a replacement, and I noticed there's a "Lifetime Warranty". I was a bit skeptical, as the item was 4 years old, and there are a lot of weasel warranties out there. But I figured what the heck, I went to the Deiss website and sent a message telling them what happened.
The very next morning, I had an email saying it was covered by the warranty, and I should send my Amazon order number and current shipping address. (The Amazon order number was no problem since Amazon keeps all your information for you. Click on the black banner /"Returns and Orders").
Three days later a new Deiss PRO was in my mailbox.
Great product. The Manufacturer backs it. Don't try to guess if your fish is done.

I purchased this after my old digital thermometer suddenly stopped working. I cook a lot and I've been cooking even more often during quarantine, even making dishes using bulk meat straight out of the freezer so I felt a replacement food thermometer was a necessity. I did a few tests and it seems very accurate with both hot & cold temps. I like that the probe tucks away and it turns on & off by pulling it out and clicking it back into place. It's super easy to see the large readout with the backlight and there's a strong magnet to hang it on your fridge or the side of your oven to keep it handy. I was also glad to see that while it came with a battery pre-installed there was also a backup battery in the package. Considering the ease of use, functionality, & price I'm very happy with this digital thermometer and I'd recommend it to other home chefs.
