I'm in the middle of a landscaping project, so I use this everyday to work out rough measurements before I set them in stone. It's handy, but I wish it had a few more features like ..
- The ability to undo your last action
- an easy way to save and export work to a file
- a more secure way to keep the templates in place.
For casual use, this product is amazing. It has already reduced the amount of paper I am using.
However, if you are planning to use it as part of your professional tech ecosphere I would rethink using this.

The size is good, the replaceable back pieces are very loose fitting and kind of flimsy, even flat on a desk it bows downward which makes the lines look further away from the screen/surface. The write functionality is smooth, but the lines seems thick and blurry, difficult if you have a smaller writing style. The exact erase function is neat if you calibrate it, only down side is the text gets darker if you use that feature.

Overall it's okay. I feel like the quality is a bit flimsy for $45. I have a smaller $10 one I got a while ago and the text quality is 10x sharper and more legible. Just wished the background was tighter against the screen, maybe if it had a back that you can close that presses it in it would be better.

The first unit I received was used and clearly opened!! Unacceptable coming from a manufacturer store.

UPDATE 5/21/19: I raised this to a 5 star review because of the great customer service I received from Kent Displays, the makers of the Blackboard. I contacted them via their website and explained the problems I experienced. After providing them with the serial number and pictures of the defective Blackboard, they promptly sent a replacement via FedEx. I am very happy with the outcome.

UPDATE: I lowered this to a 3 star review because I have to recalibrate the tablet every so often. After having Pressed the erase button several times during use, after a while, it dims the screen to the point it's almost impossible to read. As if it sets itself to setting number 12, the dimmest of them all!

Also, I find that the battery cover is impossible for me to remove. I tried using a quarter and it wouldn't turn to the open position no matter how firmly I pressed down to turn. It messed up the slot and the quarter now slides out when I try to press and turn. I hope that I never have to replace it because I am struggling to get this thing open.

ORIGINAL REVIEW: I bought this to use as a scratch pad for math. I like to conserve resources and I felt like using paper was wasteful, even though I try to use the same sheet and just erase everything once I run out of room.

Anyway, I got tired of having to erase all the time and also having to clean up the little eraser crumbs.

This Blackboard by Boogie Board is pretty cool! I can now erase with the touch of a button or spot erase by holding down a button.

It's important to calibrate the "exact-erase" feature otherwise it'll look like you're dimming the screen every time you erase something. Setting #5 works well for me. You can find their calibration video on their site. It's referenced on the sheet that comes with it.

The pen with eraser that comes with it feels good. I wish the point was more fine because the writing comes out a bit thick. I find that spot erasing by using the writing tip is much better and more precise than using the eraser. It doesn't require as much pressure and leaves less smudging (the exact erase feature simulates eraser smudgings, that's why it's important to calibrate).

The only thing that I don't like about it is that when the screen is locked, even though it lets you write, if something scratches the pad or you put pressure on it, it'll "write" or "smudge green" on it. It's not a big deal unless it smudges something important.

It comes with 4 templates (grid, lined, blank, & planner). You just slide one on the back and since the screen is clear, you'll see the template you chose. It's really cool that the screen is clear because you can trace diagrams or whatever you want.

I'm disappointed that the back of the board isn't able to hold all of the 4 templates. Only one fits at a time and even then, it fits loosely and slides out. I fixed that by making 4 tabs out of packing tape and stuck them at the bottom and lower sides. Now the template is held securely. I can shake it around and the template stays put.

It's a great buy! I'm happy to be using much less paper (even though it's been the same 2 sheets for quite sometime. My erasers will appreciate it! Lol 🤣)

There is definetely room for improvement, however, it is still a worthy product in my opinion. People either Love or Hate Boogie board products. A majority of the haters either don't educate themselves about the product, don't comprehend all the potential uses or really want a different product but was hoping / thought they found a cheap version.

With the Folio, the templates stay in place well enough. As a teacher, I like how I can place student worksheets in the back and write over them as often as needed - useful for teaching same thing with multiple small groups. And the students love the ability to trace anything!

The calibration aspect isn't perfect but does work. I find the setting that leaves a minor residue works best in keeping the loss of brightness to a minimum. There are Youtube videos easily demonstrating the calibration process.

I love the new stylus!

Personally, I love the Boogieboards products! They write darker and are better made / sturdy. I do buy generic versions for my students to use so I can buy more. But generic - even the best ones are not as bright or last as long.

This one had unique features which will be helpful to use with my students.

The Boogieboard App is mediocre but necessary if you want a black and white version to save what's on the board. I generally just snap a pic using my phone camera. Adding a highlighter to the Boogieboard App would be very helpful.

However, the description is deceiving. It implied the Folio cover was included but if you read closely, you have to add the Folio cover. And again deception. I considered ordering another one correctly with the cover as it stated to do but it was still going to charge me for the Folio case instead of the case being free of charge. I went ahead and ordered a Folio case because I planned on using it this week and I want it protected. I'm not happy that it will cost me more than I expected and I have to wait for the cover.

Instructions are pretty much non-existent. Luckily, I'm familiar with past products and videos in YouTube. YouTube videos will show you how to calibrate and erase.

This should have been an easy 5 stars. I'm sure future products will continue to improve on features and I hope the advertisements will be clear - not deceptive.

This is a great way to save on paper, easy to use and durable.
