I never feed hummingbirds after the end of August because they need to migrate. They nest in a huge dogwood we have and last year, they would not leave. We get a LOT of rain in SW Washington, so I remembered this hat from back in the day and looked it up. When it arrived (bought camo to go with the landscape and not scare the birds), I cut a small hole in the top to slip it over the hook and then nailed half of it under the sofit. Then I hung the feeder back up. They could fly in and out of their covered restaurant and not skip a beat. Fed them through the winter and well, I guess they're extended family now.

I wish it were better made for daily use...the headband isn't adjustable and once the elasticity of the band goes bad...you have nothing to work with.. Make a better one..it's useful and for those in the South...keeps your head cooler than any hat , including pith helmuts..
