Unbeatable crag rope-bag for shortish-medium approaches
Michael Corey Munn✓ Verified Purchase•July 21, 2023
For $20, this is the best short-approach rope bag out there. Recreational climbers usually don't take long approaches (longer than 30 mins, 1 mile) and this bag is perfect for that purpose. I have used this with my 60M 10.2 rope which felt much heavier inside of my old black diamond taco bag which I had to ditch because of it's lack of being a backpack. Having a cheap, sturdy backpack for this price is awesome.
Final note - the tarp on this bag is very small, so if you are looking to keep your rope clean, then it the cheapest option would be to simply purchase a tarp and cut it to fit the size you need (8' - 8' is probably right if you're that much of a stickler). You can easily fold that tarp up real small and stick it in this bag with the rope instead of buying a much more expensive rope bag.

Great value bag, tarp is very small

For the value, this is a great rope bag. I get a 60m rope, chalk bag, moon lence camp chair, and a hammock in the main compartment. I have a 9.8mm 80m that fits in here easily, but obviously less room for other things.
The only enclosure is a draw string which doesn't close very tight and 2 buckles. The buckles are kind of hard to unbuckle, but there's no way they are coming undone accidentally. I was worried about it not having a zipper and things falling out, but that hasn't been a problem. Pushing the rope down and putting larger things on top of it and cinching the buckles has worked for me so far and nothing has fallen out. There is a small zippered pouch on the top for small things.
My biggest complaint is the tarp is really tiny. Like way smaller than any rope bag I've seen and definitely smaller than the other 2 metolius bags I have. There is no way to keep the rope on the tarp if you're belaying. A smaller complaint is that the straps are not very padded. I've hiked about a mile+ each way with maybe 8 pounds in this bag and it was ok, but not great. I don't think I would appreciate a very long approach with this bag.
Overall, a fantastic value for what it is. If you have a smaller rope and want a storage or just need a casual bag that you're not using all the time it is very serviceable.

Great bag for the money worth the buy

Just got my bag today. So far I love it! I will write an updated review after I get to use it. This bag has an incredible amount of room inside of it while still being light weight. I was able to fit a 70 meter rope 10mm thick inside along with my climbing shoes 2 7mmx25 foot quad anchors, multiple slings, a 15ft 1" webbing, about 10 lockers, harness, chalk bag and a GRIGRI+ and atc guide with a little bit of room left.
With all that inside it's still at a decent weight and fairly comfortable to wear.
The only thing I wish it had was a little more padding on the shoulder straps and a waist strap which would make this bag absolutely a favorite and must have for the money.
As is you can't beat this bag for the money. Worth getting 2-3 if you have more gear or different set ups

Gym bag

Bought this almost a year ago. Great product for the price. Mainly used it as a gym bag. Recently brought it to the crag and it didn't hold up very well.
Enough room for an 80m rope.
When I use it as a gym bag, it stored my harness, belay device, glasses, tape and a 40m rope.
Had to stitch up the part where the back straps connect to the bag (near the waist) to extend the life.
Will buy again if/when it finally breaks down. Great company, will support whenever I can.

The bag is large enough to hole 30 meters of 11 mm static rope. I love the tarp with it's loops. You just tie one end to each loop.
This way you will not have a tangled mess.
The aluminum hooks are a nice touch. They are more heavy duty than a zipper. I found it for 20 dollars and I think it's a good value in this economy. It will be used at backbone rock near Damascus Virginia.
It has a staircase on the back side. So you walk up the back and reppell off the front. I am 51 and I love to reppell but climbing is too much work these days.
