Stops neighbors' loud vicious dog
Shay 'n Je✓ Verified Purchase•September 21, 2023
We bought a house a while back. Our neighbors have a dog which is large and mean. This creature barks loudly as it throws itself against the heavy wood fence. The entire time it is outside it does this. For breaks, it just sits and growls in a deep and threatening way. The dog recently upped its game by waiting for us to do something in our house: dishes with the window open, even walking across creaking wooden floors. We cannot be in the house in peace. I will sit on the front porch in silence, it will smell me and growl in the Threatening Way. It just wants to kill us. It just hangs on inside of his home's fence, dreaming of death. We dream of quiet.
The neighbors say oh it's friendly and they are so in denial, which is helped by beer. They will put it away when we say we have to mow the lawn. Other than this Obnoxious Denial Dog Thing, there is no problem with them. Our neighbors on the other side have three large guard dogs, and those dogs are never like this, a dream of Well-Behaved.
The hellion dog broke our fence in two places trying to get to us. A big, sturdy fence, just ripped the heavy screws with plates out. The neighbor did fix it, but it just doesn't sink in that their pup is a menace. We considered carrying mace when in the yard. It is that bad. We looked the neighbors' information up because we are sneaky and saw their house is in end stage foreclosure and short sale and we so want them to just leave without starting problems with HOA and authorities but legal foreclosure stuff is just not happening and we are losing it while we're waiting. It's worse since the pandemic and my husband works from home on the phone.
Enter the Modus ultrasonic Dog Bark Deterrent. When it arrived, I ripped off the packaging (batteries are in it), dog of course is barking loudly, I take it out, walk towards the beleaguered fence, *ZAP* every single time it barks, growls, throws itself against the fence. It took about a minute the first time to get it to shut up. It worked right through the solid wood fence! It still paces and freaks out, but is quiet. It has been about a couple of weeks and it still tries to bark, but stops after a couple of barks. It whimpers, goes quiet and I grin. I don't torture the dog of course, as soon as the barking stops, so do I with the zapper. It barks a whole lot less in general these days. We bought an automatic one now so that zaps it too if we aren't around. The dog is so frustrated it now goes the the neighbor on the other side of the fence, which is quieter for us, but it doesn't seem to be the same for it and it gives up. It hates us more. Or maybe they zap it too; who knows? It is a whole lot quieter in general now. We smile and wave at the neighbors, who don't know of our silent diabolical plot. We all get along, they will eventually have to move on with the dog, without any drama. We'll keep the zapper because who knows if the new neighbors will have a loud dog. Hehehe. Also it might be useful for bicycle rides and walking. *We were not compensated in any way for this review.*
TL;DR: This works on our neighbors' loud vicious dog.

Our puppy was a "nuisance barker" meaning he barked for attention or just to self soothe. The worst was at night when it was time to settle in his crate. I bought this device with low expectations but hoping for the best. When i first hit the button he tilted his head, so i knew he heard the beep. The first night I hit it every time he barked and stated "no". It took about 10 barks before he settled down. By the 2nd night i only had to hit it once after the first bark and he stopped! I hope this review is helpful and the device works for other dog owners.
Pups hate it, I love it.

I have or had or couple of Doxi yappers. This little thing and the word quiet 90% solved that problem. I allow them to bark 1 or 2 times say the word quiet, repeat if necessary then push the button if they are still yapping. Took about 2 days. Now I rarely even use it, just say quiet and they are done. Easy to use, good quality, still on the first charge. If you have yappers get one, just be consistent and use the same word everytime.
PEACE reigns sublime.

Update#2: It's been about a week and I have not had to use this device again. Following the second use my dog now barks once and self-corrects (99% of the time). She barks, she self-corrects, she looks to me for approval - AND MAN DOES SHE GET APPROVAL. And so do the makers of this Modus Anti Barking Device, Ultrasonic Dog Bark Deterrent. They know what they're doing.
UPDATE #1: I have upped my rating to 5 stars - this device simply works. I, as the operator of the device and the one with the agenda for using the device, need to know how/when/why to use it. The second time I used it with my dog, who was dealing with the UPS delivery person delivering a package to me (stuff for her, by the by) in the only way she really has available to her (barking), I made myself clear with the hush word ('hush', very clever of me, eh?), aimed the device at her (not necessary since she can hear it from anywhere but I needed her to know it was coming from me for a reason), said 'hush', pressed the button, she INSTANTLY silenced, came out of the window seat, looked at me without distress of any kind, went to the door to let me know there was something out there (yep, I got it buddy, I've got it), came to me for approval, laid down beside me for a little while and then went back to her window seat.
Yep, this device works...and, I doubt I'll have to use it ever again to get her to hush, except possibly in extreme circumstances. I don't want her to stop barking, I rely on her watchfulness. I just needed her to stop barking on command under a specific circumstance (the big brown van) and this device helped me accomplish that after just 2 applications.
INITIAL REVIEW: I don't know how I feel about this Modus Anti Barking Device, Ultrasonic Dog Bark Deterrent yet. It most definitely does what it says; it silenced my dog's barking mid bark. She's not a nuisance barker or an aggressive dog, she's simply indignant that the UPS delivery person or FedEx person or USPS or anyone carrying packages would have the audacity to come up her steps, or even in her condo complex parking lot. She is a good watch dog (a terrible guard dog though because the tail, it wags). She takes her job seriously. She barks for a reason and when I can get her attention she'll stop. If it's a neighbor, it's easier to get her attention. When it's a delivery person, I don't exist and she won't stop until the van is out of sight. Then, peace reigns again. So, stopping her expressing her indignation with the Big Brown Van usually means I have to walk over to the bay window, acknowledge what she's seen, confirm that it's okay for whoever to be there. I don't mind really but I work remotely and that's not something I can do during conference calls, especially since she's already been heard on the conference call and the damage is done.
I used the Modus Anti Barking Device, Ultrasonic Dog Bark Deterrent and 2 in 1 Dog Training Aid for the first time today and one second press on the button and she instantly silenced. She came out of her window seat in the bay window, she looked around in CLEAR DISTRESS (tail tucked, ears back) trying to identify the source of the sound. She is still in distress 20 minutes later and she is clearly fearful of going back into her window seat. Not the result I was hoping for. She's not barking, it's true, but she's not in the window seat anymore or caring one bit about who's out there. Again, not the result I was aiming for. She LOVES her window seat and saying hello to the neighbors who love her. Instead, she's tucked tail, ears back, fearful of going into her window seat, and still trying to understand where the sound came from. I will try it a couple more times and try to make it clear the sound came from me and that it means I want her to stop barking.
She's a rescue who has had more abuse than any living being deserves. She has known nothing but safety and love and happiness with me (she's my nutty companion) and I am disinclined to do anything that causes her any amount of distress. She's not barking but she's not happy. I'll post an update after maybe two more tries.

I am a person that normally reads reviews before buying a product, and it was no different with this purchase. We have two Labradors, one that just turned 11 and the other is 1. I made this purchase to use more as a training aid for our 1 year old to break him of some unwanted habits that we weren't being successful with as part of our normal training. As most young labs are prone to do, he loves to put everything in his mouth outside, plus likes to take shoes, and remote controls. Reviews were mixed on this particular item with people saying it didn't work at all to others saying it worked great. In the end it seemed like a product that worked to some level and was very easy to use, so, decided it was worth a try for $30.
The day we got it, which by the way came early by a day or two, I had the chance to use it. Our 1 year old had taken a shoe and would not release it. I gave him many repeated commands to leave it, but he wanted to play with it. I pushed the button for less than a second and WOW, it worked like a charm. I could not believe it, he dropped the shoe right away, and came by my side. In the few weeks we have had it, we have only had to use it a handful of times. It has worked every time on him. He now listens and responds to our commands much better. If he is starting to perform a behavior we don't want, and he won't respond to our verbal commands all we really need to do is show him the control and he obeys. It has been a great addition to our training.
Having two dogs, we did have concern with using this to train our 1 year old and it accidentally also affecting our 11 year old that might be within range. It is a dilemma you will have to work out if you do have two dogs. However, for us it appears as it does not affect our 11 year old. We have used it a couple times when our 11 year old has been in range of our 1 year old, and it doesn't seem to phase him. So, I am not sure if it is his age and his hearing is not as good as it used to be and this frequency doesn't affect him, or, he is just a salty old man who has a tolerance to it. :-) Not sure, and we never have reason to use it on him, so, I don't know if holding the button longer would affect him. So, to the point other reviewers made this may not work on all dogs.
Our neighbor has two dogs as well (Rottweiler and Rottweiler mix), and one is a barker when he is outside and sees someone. They have been frustrated, because they have not been able to correct him of it and have even used a training shock collar. That has worked, but not consistently. So, instead of being able to have the dog outside with them, they usually keep him in the house because of the barking. We were outside talking, and the dog started barking when they saw us, and I told them about this device and about the success we had with it on our 1 year old. He asked if he could try it, and he went over to their deck where their dog was barking pushed the button for less than a second and their dog stopped barking right away.
I have no feedback on battery life. It takes 2 AAs, and we have used it so little I don't know how long they should or will last.
The only negative thing I have noticed is it is easy to accidentally press the control button if you have it in your pocket or aren't paying attention to how you are carrying it. It doesn't take a lot to press it down, as the button is basically flush with the case. So, watch out for that.
Overall we are happy with this purchase, and our results to this point have been great. It is doing what we hoped it would for helping us in our training.
