My father got this for the grand kids, my older son is 9 and the younger one is 6. It is ideal for us to take to the park for batting practice and pop flies. We power it with a little Honda 2200i generator. It also works with a 12V battery and an inverter as well. But I find the generator is an easier to transport solution and I don't have to worry about the battery's charge.
The legs fit in our Powernet bag and though the machine is heavy, it easily transports in the trunk of a car. Assembly at the park is very quick and easy as well not requiring any tools. The kids love "pitching" to each other using this machine. There is plenty of room to grow into it. At a kid's pitching distance of 35-40', I as an OK hitter can't catch up to pitches at the 70 mph setting. We feed regular leather baseballs instead of dimpled balls, I like the variability that the seams provide and they feel better coming off the bat. We will slowly invest in Jug's Pearl baseballs as we wear out the current balls in our bucket. This machine doesn't do changeups, but we've found that using a mush/dead baseball has a changeup like effect. Keeping a few mush/dead balls in the bucket is something to consider to add that variability to batting practice.
As a dad with just marginal pitching skills this machine is an arm saver. Throwing over 250 balls per practice can take its toll, even if it isn't fast pitching.
The versatility for defensive drills is super convenient. One kid could feed balls into the machine as you are actively coaching the other one in the field.
Lastly its just fun. The kids have a blast whenever we take it out and look forward to going to the park with this machine.
