It lifts it up to the top of it's will.
And lowers it down again.
And when it is up, it is up.

Seriously though...This lab lift is well designed, works well, holds where it's set. Tight enough to hold, but not enough to hinder smooth action.
I use it in my macro studio to lift my specimen stage for positioning the subject in front of the lens.

Very handy supplement for a fiber laser

I purchased this to serve as an alternate focus tool for a fiber laser (rather than raising/lowering the lens on the tower, I can raise/lower my workpiece on this stand).
To protect the stand itself, whenever I engrave/cut anything with the laser, I first place a small sheet of steel on the lift's surface underneath my workpiece. Then I just set the focus and go.
Ridiculously affordable option that greatly eased my workflow.

Bought for science class demonstration. Flat top/bottom are thinner than I expected, but the scissor lift mechanism is heavyweight. Overall very, very sturdy, adjusts easily. Excellent value. No reason to buy a more expensive brand.
