I installed these for a customer and would readily suggest these for someone with an inexpensive guitar that plays and sounds decent but has sloppy tuners. I can't say how they'll perform in a few years but even if they aren't quite as good after significant use they'd still be a good value.

Overall these tuning machines keep my guitar in tune well. I tried them both ways ez-lock and as a standard tuner. The ez lock process is a bit of a chore. I decided to use them as regular tuning machine. I use the top hole to keep the winds even around the peg. Great upgrade for a budget guitar with bad tuning machines.

Ordered the black model - got them this morning and installed on my brand new Kramer Baretta Special. Some things to know, then on to the good/bad. They come in a MusicLily package and I had to look up Wilkinson to make sure that the companies were the same since the description indicated that they were Wilkinson tuners - and they are. The tuners are NOT STAGGERED which is what I expected and what I ordered.

First the good -
- The Wilkinson tuners were almost an exact drop-in fit to replace the Kramer branded tuners that came on the guitar. Everything lined up and fit nicely. The screws used to secure the tuners to the back of the headstock are the difference - they are smaller in diameter than the original screws by a tiny bit so you will need to be careful screwing them in the existing holes. If you try to hurry through it, you could route out the small amount of wood inside the hole that the screw will seat into. They did appear to "grab" at the very end and tighten down. This was a bit weird because they are shorter than the stock screws too.
- The tuners feel smooth and responsive and the locking mechanism appears to work although its not anything like traditional locking tuners and its likely that strings will be a bear to change based on how they "lock" into place.
- They look great on the guitar and they dont add any noticeable weight to the headstock. They also appear to be stable and hold tuning although, its just been a few hours so time will tell. The directions on the listing are easy to follow and the install and string mount is fairly easy - if you are not concerned about how the wound string looks.

Now for the bad (well, really not bad just things you should know before buying/installing)
- They look and feel cheap from the perspective of how a tuner looks and feels, not aesthetically (color). The fact that these were less than $30 saves them from a lower rating or even being sent back. Other than the locking post, they look and feel exactly like the stock tuners.
- TEST FIT the mounting screw/nut on EVERY tuner before trying to install. Screw the mounting screw all the way down on the screw head. Fortunately this is my practice before having a go at the headstock finish. I dont know if these were machined to an exact fit and then painted or not properly cleaned up after machining, but EVERY tuner was difficult when trying to screw on the mounting nut - it felt like each one was cross-threading but they werent and kind of "broke-free" after about halfway. Use the EXACT size socket when test fitting and mounting or you will likely chew the black (or other color) finish right off of them - or worse, strip the nut.
- If you are trying to just replace your stock tuners and not the strings (like I was because my strings were brand new), good luck. You need a certain amount of string length to pull off the lock wind and my existing strings were too short so I had to replace them. I have replaced traditional locking tuners and saved strings before because there is generally little to no wind with traditional locking tuners. These tuners require winding.
- I dont like the wind on them. You have just enough wind to need new strings, but not enough to clean up the wind if it starts to get a little messy. This was a tedious process for me because I am particular about the string wind and the look. This is also how I know taking strings off will be a headache as I had to remove the first string on and start over.

Final thoughts. I paid less than $200 for the guitar so I didnt want to spend half the cost of the guitar on tuners. I wanted a specific color and something that would drop in without any hassle - that is exactly what I got. I would NEVER put these on one of my more expensive guitars and maybe that is ok and where this product is supposed to fit in. I cant yet speak to the value because I havent had them long enough and low cost doesnt always amount to value. They went on easy (after the test fit process), they look nice, the guitar tunes up and appears to stay in tune. For less than $30 I am no worse off and have the look that I wanted with maybe the benefit of a set of locking tuners. It is important to note that I am meticulous when it comes to my guitars. I take my time and work hard to avoid damaging the guitar through maintenance or upgrade. If you run at installing these like a NASCAR pit crew, you are most likely going to leave behind some nasty traces of your impatience. The tuners are cheap in the sense that they have edges and dont fit together cleanly without proper prep - they require time and care to install. I will edit this review in a few weeks after I have had some time to play them in.

12/24/2022 - I ended up selling the guitar that I installed these on recently. They held tuning pretty good - actually better than I expected. I did end up having an issue with one of the tuners over time. It began to feel loose and slip when tuning. This wasnt a huge issue, it just took a little extra time and patience to find the sweet spot on it to land the string into pitch. It held tuning pretty well so I didnt have to mess with it often, but it was still defective compared to the other 5 tuners. Also, this same tuner started to show discoloration on the very top of the tuner post. It went from black to a dirty chrome color. It wasnt super-obvious, but I did sell the guitar so I am not sure how bad it will get. Either way, that tuner will eventually need to be replaced just due to the slipping.

I still think they are worth the money at less than $30. They looked good and held tune for the time I owned the guitar.

I gave them a 4 star. they seem well built, however the black paint is easily removed. i had to use a wrench to secure the post nut into the key and that caused some light scratches. overall happy so far- they seem to be staying in tune
