Ideal tent; solid trekking poles too!

I have had this tent setup for several days: first inside the house to get used to it, then outside to give a test run. It is so easy to setup, and is obviously designed very well. The seams, material and layout are all fantastic. I love how it incorporates the trekking poles, since I am going to have them on hikes anyway. Speaking of, the poles adjust in 2 different places, which is ideal not just for hiking, but for modifying the tent setup as well. The tent is roomy and I like the dark green color scheme too (even my wife commented on how nice it is). I am 5'8' so this tent has more than enough space for me and my gear. It includes 8 stakes, of which I only use 4 for the corners, and tied off the included guy wires to nearby items (logs, rocks, etc). The other 4 stakes can be used too, but I opted to use logs for quicker adjustments and tightening.......
Aside from the quality tent and materials (stakes, packing back, cinching ribbon), I have to point out how impressed I am with the paperwork/instructions that are included. This is from an American company, based out of Washington State, and it shows. They not only have succinct to follow directions, but they include helpful hints. Not only are instructions included on how to setup the tent, but they also include how to take it down and fold it up. Setup and breakdown are typically obvious, but not for everyone. Plus it is nice to see the owners take pride and go above and beyond in the description and instruction of their product. While setup in my backyard, I have added Permethrin bug repellant, and once that dried added a copious layer of waterproofing spray, as I do with nearly all my gear ( a very effective trick learned in my U.S. Army Infantry days).......
The tent is warm, cozy and has ventilation in the front and sides. If I had any recommendation, it would be to include ventilation on the back wall of the tent, perhaps a window, but I know that would compromise some of the integrity of the tent, making it more susceptible to leaks so it is totally fine. Plus, I do not plan to use this in the summer heat anyway, opting for hammocks instead, so this tent from River Country Products will serve me quite well in backpacking trips with my Scout, possibly even making the trip to Philmont Scout Ranch in July 2023. Thank you River Country Products!!!
Great for the price and intended purpose! .

Weather: Low of 39 with winds @ 40mph Gusting to 60mph. While I can't tell you about the water resistance of this tent I can tell you it can take some wind. My last camping trip was a pretty wild ride. I did the best I could to find some low ground out of the wind but the tent was still taking the occasional thrashing from a gust here and there. Not a popped thread anywhere and it still looks good as new. The included aluminum stakes held great but if you're in very rocky soil I'd go with steel just not to ruin your aluminum. The optional trekking poles do the job well but I would be fine with more weight if they felt a little sturdier. It was a very nice surprise to find that the guy lines were already attach to the tent and had small tensioners pre installed. This made the first setup take less than five minutes. I see a lot of reviews talking about ventilation but in windy conditions I found myself pulling the side vents straight down and staking them to block out the wind. It would be cool to have a toggle and loop to close the side vents during rough weather. She's a good ship especially for $50 and an additional $20 for some poles. Just don't go into this thinking it's a military pup tent with a bottom. It's not. That's not what this is for. You can go rough places with it but you have to be mindful of where you put it. It's thin and light for a reason.
Best trekking tent for price

Read many reviews of many trekking tents and landed on this one. Absolute banger. Super spacious, more than enough room for me and my dog. Its light, the trekking poles function great, and the setup is ridiculously easy. The price point is just the cherry on top. Right out of the box I waterproofed it, and haven't had any leaks. Even used it during a flash flood with severe thunderstorms. One thing to keep in mind when using this tent, is to stake the guidelines on the sides of the tent more downward rather than outward. If the guidelines are staked far outwards on the sides, it can cause the little nylon flap holding the mosquito net and outer wall to angle down into the tent which will cause water to build up and drain into the tent. Just be conscious of that when setting up and all should be good. Super content with my purchase. The only thing left to see now, is if it will stand the test of time. So far so good.
Good tent, just waterproof it.

This really is a good, lightweight, compact, easy to setup tent. The guylines and the tent steaks it comes with will work right out of the box, and the trekking poles are similar to the ones you'd get at Walmart, so they're ok.

I give it 4-stars because what looks like a rain fly definitely is not a rain fly. The side guylines are more for ventilation as the tent itself is not rain ready. Easy fix - Kiwi Camp Dry (2 cans of the heavy duty stuff).

I set it up out of the box before it rained to test it out. We got about 1/2" of rain that night and the tent had puddling in two corners and dripping water from one side near the top of the tent. By the end of the 8-9 hours of light rain, much of the tent was saturated. Good news though - after opening it up the tent dried quickly. After I sprayed it with Kiwi it rained again, but much more - almost 1 1/2" with 25mph wind gusts. It was dry inside.

The other reason for the 4-star review is that it says the length is 7', but it isn't. I'm 5'7" and laying down my toes touch one end and my head almost touches the other. I measured it and it's more like 77". So, if you're over 6'2" tall, this may not work for you.

Overall, I'm very happy with this tent. Sure, it needs to be waterproofed. They all do really, so it's to be expected. This tent is inexpensive and absolutely works. If you're trying to do ultra-light backpacking and are looking for a top of the line budget friendly tent, I believe this is it. Just order some Kiwi with it!
It's a pretty good tent.

I've used this tent now on 2 trips, stayed dry, condensation was almost nonexistent, for the price it's not a bad tent, it'd be great kids or the weekend camper. It's pretty small but I (6' tall) had no issues sleeping in it, the only gripe I have is the door, it's difficult as a grown man to crawl in without getting hung up on the pole.

Overall it's great for someone who may be just getting into camping. If you're already into camping and just looking for lighter tents (as I was) I recommend spending a bit extra and finding a lighter one that will have more space inside.
