OK.. here's a quick background - I'm an old freelance sound guy and I used be Pro Audio manager at a music shop. I used to use large 15" full range cabinets.. Now that I'm older - i wanted to stay away from back breaking heavy items.. so I got the powered 12" full range and a single 12" subwoofer. I might get a second later but for now, I mostly do small indoor venues with about 100-250 people. This sub kicks nice for most music.. If you need bump hard for Hip Hop or modern Reggae - then yeah - consider either getting a more of these OR get something bigger.. BUT for my needs - small DJ gigs - this single sub kicks butt. The Cutoff knob works great - just tune it the way you want. I just roll the bass down on the powered top so that this little sub does all the heavy work.

I down-sized my PA to a couple cheap line array stick things that have 8" subs in the base (Harbinger MLS900). For the money, they are surprisingly very good on their own. I added this sub to carry some of the load and not drive the 8s so hard.
This thing is surprisingly good (12" version), too. Decently small and light, with enough poop to add some punch. Will it do a crowd of 1000s? Eh... no. But it will handle smaller clubs if you're not going for paint-peeling volume.
Build quality seems very good and the price for this build quality is stupid good. If you're looking to add a little oomph to an underwhelming PA, you really can't beat these things for the money.
