This definitely has a weird chemical smell when you open it, but after washing the brushes in Dawn dish soap and warm water, the scent was gone. The brushes survived the wash with minimal bristles falling out. In terms of use, they feel much more luxurious than the price they are sold for. Though the brush itself is not as smooth and fine as my other brushes (I'm talking Artis), the price makes up for it and I prefer to use these vs. more expensive options. Even if they had to be replaced annually, it's worth it.

These brushes are very nice and a great bargain for the price. They have the same feel as far more expensive luxury brand brushes. When I opened them they did have an odor, which was quickly and easily removed as I washed them with a trusted makeup brush soap and warm water. (***Washing any brushes, sponges, beauty blenders, etc should always be done before using them and to keep your face and them clean and free of germs and to prevent and remove bacteria that could cause breakouts as well as numerous other skin conditions) These brushes did not shed or lose more than 5 bristles out if the entire set even while washing. I have washed them several times now and am extremely pleased with the way they clean up, their performance, and that they still feel and look the same as they did when they were new(minus the odor). I have plans to purchase a couple more sets to put in to gifts for a couple family members and friends and maybe a couple more sets for my own personal use.

the quality of these brushes is good enough to pick up makeup products (foundation, powder, etc.) well, and the set comes with plenty of them to try new techniques with! the flat brushes are particularly nice since they make it easier to work with cream products. pretty good for a cheap set!
