Touchy Voltage and Current adjustment

I've had this for several years. I previously had another inexpensive Chinese 30V 5A variable PS that was very similar but I needed more current. Yes, I bought this for the fine/course adjustment knobs, the price and the extra current. This PS is not easy to adjust. I really have no other way to explain my issues with it other than the course adjustment knobs are too course and the fine is too fine. I use it for all sorts of applications and can usually work around the touchy controls just fine but I have one that has cost me some money. Testing high power laser diodes has become expensive with this PS. They are current driven devices that are very sensitive. One slip and $75-$100 is down the drain. I've been careful and slipped more times than I like to admit with this PS. Very easy to overshoot. My 5A PS wasn't this sensitive. I would buy another brand if I had to do it over again

For the price this is a great product. The manual is not the best but you tube sorted that. It is a beginner's bench power supply and I'm sure to get good use from this on many projects.

I had a 0 - 30 volt 5 amp I bought 7 or 8 years ago. After leaving out in an unheated shop all that time, this year it died. With inflation, I got this for slightly less $$ and it is good for 10 amps. I really like the wattage feature.

It's fairly accurate, easy to read(large LED digits), lightweight and does not take up too much bench space. It may not have true 3 or 4 place accuracy but for the money close enough. For example if you are using the constant current mode there is a roughly 1 second delay in activation at the lower milliamp range say 100ma for example. The fan does like to short cycle every so often even when unloaded but otherwise quiet operation. Having the power switch up front is very convenient. The included test leads seem of reasonable quality. The fine adjustment knobs do come in handy at times.

Generally it will be good enough for my use. I want to point out a few things about the unit. First, i wish it was a smaller size. I knew how big it was going in, but I would have preferred a more compact unit. That said, it is light, but it does take up a lot of desk space. The terminal covers screw all the way off. Once they are off, you can press on shielded style banana plugs. This is important, because when you go looking for extra wires, not that many are exposed banana style. It does come with a set of sharp tipped probes, with shielded banana plugs - just like in the picture, in addition to the larger style alligator clips. I like the design for having coarse and fine adjustments - the only drawback is they are like 300 degree turn - not even a full rotation - for full scale. So they are not as easy to precision adjust as one might think.
