My name is Danny. My thoughtful wife recently purchased your FH-430 flugelhorn for me. I noticed it was oiled and slides greased and ready to play right out of the box. Played it all day when it came in. I play trumpet, flugelhorn, baritone, and Altohorn. I believe this new horn will be my favorite. You never know what to expect when ordering on line. Jean Paul instruments have a reputation for being high quality and good value. This is no exception. I already own a Jean Paul trumpet and clarinet.

Note that I am giving this rating based on it being a beginner to intermediate level instrument. No doubt a professional level instrument would be superior, but that's not what it purports to be.

By the way, Amazon asked me to rate on "sheerness". Puzzled, I tried to find a definition of "sheerness" that might in any way be applicable to a flugelhorn. I found none, so I omitted that rating. For the record, if I'm being asked to compare it to a town in England, it fails miserably.

After terrible tracking and delivery service by the USPS I finally got my flugelhorn.

When opening the case it was very neat and everything was very well protected. The instrument itself is 100% as seen in the photos. The only thing wrong was the valves were switched and I had to have help figuring that out because I was already frustrated and not thinking clearly. Once I got the valves corrected, it sounded extremely beautiful and after oiling the valves, the valves were very smooth and all the slides were pre-greased and were moving effortlessly. Very easy to tune and play since I have played the trumpet for 10+ years. If you are a beginner and want to try something before buying a professional horn, this is the closest thing that you can get at a very reasonable price. I put 5 stars because even though the valves were switched that was a very easy fix and the shipping issues were not on their part.

My trumpet playing son wanted to purchase a flugelhorn with his birthday money. He wanted this one but didn't have enough $. He picked out another one that he could afford with iffy reviews. I found this horn as an Amazon return for HALF the original price, listed as in acceptable condition. Since it still had free returns, we decided to try this one. It looked pristine! But when he went to play it, it didn't. He inspected it and found valves 1 and 3 where swapped. Also, the piston gauge on one valve was installed incorrectly. He popped it into place and it plays perfectly now. The only complaint is the buttons make a clanking sound when playing it. I think we can install some felt around the buttons to repair that.
