This is far from a professional instrument, but if you are just starting out learning electronics then I highly suggest this for the price and the many waveforms it can produce. It has its limitations but really I think this is the best for someone just starting out, or who is a hobbyist or taking a class and wants their own equipment at home. It got me through my physics dept. class on applied electronics and instrumentation class and kept me out of that horridly sterile and depressing lab.

This is a very neat little, and I do mean little, instrument. All functions I have tried have worked just fine; however, the very small display is a challenge. I use AWG's infrequently, only when I'm working on an occasional project. If it is to be used it daily, I highly recommend a different AWG with a much larger display. The FY6900 replaces an older AWG with a grossly inaccurate rotary dial (Wavetek-166), plus it has a sweep function which my older analog signal generator lacks (HP 651A). The FY6900's display is spot-on but small. No manual was included with the instrument but is available on-line or just watch a video particularly for saving a setup, otherwise, it is very intuitive to operate. I'm still rating it five stars as the small display is my personal issue. I should have considered that more closely than I did. Lastly, it has a soft power-on switch. I solved that by attaching the Vac cord to a power strip which I turn on when I need to use similar instruments with soft start switches or internal ovens.

Easy to use. Menu navigation is fairly intuitive--after a simple run through the manual, I pretty much had most operations nailed. Accuracy was off by about a half hertz ( +0.5hz) according to my Siglent SDS1052DL autoscope, which is fine enough for me.

Overall, I'm delighted to have a 60 MHz signal generator at this price point. I like the physical construction and overall build quality; the soft back-lit buttons are excellent and the encoder is also quite good (for the price). It's easy and intuitive to operate and has lots of features and versatility. I find the sweep function especially useful and easy to use. It also has ability to sync both output channels.
The sine wave output is excellent (nearly perfect in form), all the way up to 60 MHz, which for my need is the most important function. However, some of the other functions are not so good. The square wave exhibits 4 ns of jitter starting at only 1 MHz and there are wild amplitude variations when sweeping the adjustable-pulse frequency over full range. But overall, it is sufficient for my needs and so it's a keeper.
